Dust Collection on HL850

Hello, just bought myself an HL850E planer with bench unit and angle stop. Got a couple or three questions for those of you who have owned one for awhile.

I'll be using the HL850 mostly on the bench unit with my CT22. I noticed that the plane is capable of expelling dust from either side. Has anyone noticed if there's any difference on which side is better able to expel dust to your CT?

Second, what size systainer have you found that best fits the HL850 with connected bench unit and angle stop attachments?

Third, I bought a 36mm hose to use with the HL850. For those of you who've also bought a 36mm hose, what size of systainer most efficiently packs that hose?

I haven't noticed any change in performance which ever side you have the dust extraction
My planer came in the new T Loc systaner 3 part of the bench unit fits in with the planer the rest is in a systaner 4 with the coiled up hose

Ok, thanks. My planer came with the T-Loc Sys3 too. I'm in the process of trading that T-Loc for an older model Sys3 since all my other Systainers are of the older type too. I expect then, like you I'll see what I can fit and then buy what I need to fit what's left.

Aside from that, I was a little disappointed with the mechanics behind the switch lock that came with the bench unit. But, it does work however mickey mouse it appears.

Hello Upscale I always planed on making a better switch for my 850 but I made a release for the safety interlock and that was such a big improvement I never finished my switch design. I still might work on the switch some day. Basically I took a piece of aluminum L bought 1/16" and cut it to length, bent it in a vise and bolted it to the bench unit. Once you swivel the 850 into position the safety is released and you just push the trigger slide in or out without having to reach in to push the button. I will attach some pictures. It is pretty simple but if you want the dimensions that worked for me let me know and I'll measure it for you.

you can see in the last picture that the length and position of the bracket need to be right in order for the slide to pass by.

Thanks for the pictures. I might get around to making my own setup some day, but for now, I'll work with the current lock. That's one thing nice about the bench unit, the fact that it has channels for attaching one's own constructions.

You forgot to include your happy face. 

In actuality, I was thinking of connecting the exhaust of my dust collector to the exhaust port on the planer. That should really improve the dust collection.  :

Good idea I have been looking at n idea how to improve switching the dam thing on and your idea does the trick! Cus it does my head in having to have to keep pressing the safety switch in.

Very nice mod on the safety switch Dongar, I'm going to use that. The switch thing has annoyed me about the 850. I have been thinking of plans for a sort of U shaped surround to make for my 850 in order to extend the in and out feed 'table' length. The 850 bench unit would sit in the void of the U and the legs would be table extensions. Hope that makes sense. I'm sort of surprised Festool hasn't make such an Acc. Hopefully I'll get around to it sometime soon.
