Dust collector placement in workshop?

I'm about to move my home-based workshop to a new location and have started to plan the layout (in my head). The new workshop will be located in a smaller "shed" with pretty low ceiling-height but it has a second floor attic with enough room for small machinery and a workbench.
My plan is to place the heavier machinery: Table-saw, band-saw and planer, downstairs (ground-level).
I'm thinking about putting the dust-collector (1hp) in the attic and box it in for noise-reasons.
My question is if the placement of the DC "above" the heavy machinery will affect the performance of dc much? My concern is the "lift-height" of approx. 2,5m. Added to that a few meters of flexible pipe.

Have you thought about emptying it, if it was me I would keep it on the ground level.

"In" ??? Put that outside. If it's outside you don't need micro bags on it, it can be very close to your machines, and you can back a truck up to it if it's designed to dump into one.

The attic would be ok if you had very low ceilings. Otherwise you're going to lose suction and probably spread particles.

You want short lines, and the least amount of flexible lines as possible. Hard turns and up in the sky mountings are two of the worst things. This may help you.

Thanks for the replies and the link. Lots of good stuff to read there.
As for placing the DC outside it's not possible due to the climate over here, it will cool the shop out in no time. And the shop is located in the center of town so the noise is an issue that might concern my neighbours.
As for emptying I'm planning to put the DC close to a "hatch" in the cieling so it will be easy to "drop" the bags down to the ground floor.
Like I said the shop is very small so it will be short runs of duct. I will keep in mind to avoid sharp bends and to keep the length on the flexi-hoses down to a minimum.

Ok, if it looks like the best place for the DC is on the upper floor, then I would be looking at crossing all the T's and think about any other possible issues like the vibration, what type of floor have you got on the upper level, also by being up high will this create more acoustics and add to the overall noise.

Hi festoolviking,
What brand 1hp dust collector do you own or you have to buy one?
My 1.5hp laguna is very quite the noise rate is identical to ct26 festool and I have a old one. The new model is quieter I believe. 
I have to agree with DB10, what type of floor do you have.
Could not you make a acoustic room outside next to the shed with proper insulation to overcome the climate problem?
