Dust Deputy and drywall dust

I have the Planex. Currently I have a Midi and some older shop vacs. When I use the Planex I use my older shop vac with a drywall bag and cleanstream filter. It works pretty well. I was thinking of getting the UDD for my Midi for my Planex . Does it handle drywall dust ok? Eventually I hope to at the 36 AC but not right now.

The UDD isn't just good at capturing drywall dust, it's amazing.  Hardly any dust will make it to the vac.  I use the planex and ac36 quite a bit and the deputy is a huge improvement to the system. In fact the UDD is so good, I think you may not need the ac36.  A blast gate and a drywall filter may suffice when you see how little dust makes it to the vac.

If you get a UDD, just make sure that you get one with the black cyclone.  This is the updated version from Oneida that is made with conductive plastic and eliminates the static issues and the need for metallic tape that was a kludge to try and deal with static on the earlier units.  The earlier units had a clear plastic cyclone.

I haven't used mine for drywall but it works great for regular sanding. And, since the update from Oneida I haven't noticed any static when sanding.

My DD sucks for drywall dust, as in it sucks it right up. Have captured many gallons of the stuff with ease using a DD with shop vac and Ridgid RO sanders. A tiny bit gets through so just keep the hepa filter cleaned up but otherwise it has served me quite well.

I don't believe the static electricity argument for shop vacuums or dust collectors but I totally agree the dust deputy gets the vast majority of drywall dust.  I sanded a pretty large room and sucked up all the dust recently.  I had a nearly full 4.5 gallon mud bucket and the bottom of the shop vacuum was almost clean.  You essentially don't need a dust chamber on the shop vacuum, the dust will be under the cyclone.

I don't believe the static electricity is an issue because I've never observed it.  I have been woodworking nearly 40 years yet and have yet to have a single observation of a static buildup.  I don't ground anything.  Regular dust deputy works fine for me.

I should have you use my Ridgid sander on some drywall...you'll experience static alright  [eek] [big grin] Hasn't bothered the sander or the shopvac and I just get used to it.
