DX 93 e Sander ?

I'm a fan of the DX93 too. It's just that I'm a little bit bigger fan of the RO90. Since I got the RO90 I haven't touched the DX93 anymore. But before the RO90 came the DX93 was one of my most used sanders and I always liked it very much.

I agree!

Plus, I have a couple of customers, whose wives use their sanders, and hands down, (unworthy pun about smaller hands), the wives like the RO 90 better.

My wife suddenly became a big fan of the DTS 400. She's a serious nurse that does sanding for fun? I think the last time she used the DTS was about a 4-hour session...

Back in 2006 when I began using and buying Festools I already owned many sanders.

My first Festool sander was an RO 150 and my second an ETS 150/3. What I did not already own was any sort of delta-pad sander with a pointed end. The weekend after I bouth the two 150mm sanders I purchased a Deltex DX93. I have enjoyed using it ever since early 2006.

All of my work starts with new wood, so removing old finish is not my problem. Hardly ever do I use a grit coarser than 100. Something I love about the DX93 is that it is only 150w, meaning I am less likely to over-sand. When I build cabinets nearly always the portion of plywood visible is factory pre-finished, so that never gets sanded. Much of the time anything needing sanded is sanded before assembly, so I can and do work with large round sanders.

However, face frames, edging, doors and drawer fronts I make from solid hardwood. I mill that in house. Everyone working for me takes pride in the way we set jointer, planer and molder knives, yet often to bring out the beauty of that hardwood some sanding is needed. Until the RO 90 DX came along I personally used my DX93 for sanding rails and stiles of frames.

Please do not get me wrong: the RO 90 DX is a marvelous tool. With a round hard pad I can beautify frames faster than with a DX 93 and spend less on abrasives. All but one of the master cabinet makers working for me prefers the RO 90 DX in delta mode over the DX93. Two of us still prefer the DX93. As a matter of fact, just a week ago I bought my third new DX93. The lack of a Plug-It cord has never caused me any grief. I also have no problem with the oval dust collection port.

Wow - I hadn't realised this was a born again thread [embarassed]

A Ro 90 is so much more versatile, why would you want to limit yourself.

First of all, I  own at least one each of every sander Festool sells in the USA. Between the announcement of the RO 90 DX and its release in the USA (spring of 2011) I pre-ordered two of them. As soon as we put those to use I ordered another 5.

Yes, the RO 90 DX is versatile. However, in my experience this does not mean it is ideal for every use. I had four years of experience owning and using the  DX93 before I could buy the RO 90 DX. As I stated above I personally appreciate the DX93 having appropriate power for finish sanding. I am not using mine to flatten rough lumber.

I also made it clear that four of my six master cabinet makers prefer the RO 90 DX in delta mode because they like the added power. When I am sanding rails and stiles I like the RO 90 DX in RO mode. So do the other cabinet makers. When we are sanding wider lumber we reach for the 150mm sanders.

Each sander has a purpose. It is up to the user to find which sander is best for the purpose.

The last old post was from Eli. He used to be a big contributor here, until he moved down under. Maybe we can get Kev to look him up and get him back in the groove. [scratch chin]
