That's a nice looking planer! Why didn't Festool bring the 65 to the US market instead of the 850???

I am sure you will get it one day we have both here.

I looked at the 850 and immediately gave it back to the salesman, its just too big for trimming doors etc. Great if you need to do endless rebates or all the other things its capable of but I already own an old Elu mff81 for big stuff. The 65 can rebate but only to 23mm deep.

I use the EHL 65 every single day at work doing window and door renovations - marvellous machine!

Lightweight, powerful, accurate and the blades last a long long time. A true one-hand-planer. The competition has nothing on it as most are 82mm and not as easy to operate. I also have the slim Blue Bosch 26-82 but it is no match for the Festool and is more or less redundant.

I also use the base mount for making it a "stationary" planer - works really well.

This is one of those Festool machines that is without peer in it's category, like the Domino DS500. I did not even own a planer two years ago and didn't see the point in having one but it is one of the tools I cannot be without today.

:)

i just got me one of these today [smile] im yet to use it but feels good.

but anyone know why theres no plug it cord [mad]

Hi i bought it the same day the festool rep was there and he said it was because of the amount of volts or sumthing and he said you shouldn't put one on your self because it voids your warranty.
i was disappointed to because it would relay help me and a planer is one of the only tools you probably only use for a couple of minutes and switch tools but its the best planner i have ever used and if you use it right you don't get end snipe and the wee plastic bit at the back comes in handy i think and as usual no dust at all 99.9%

I may be wrong but it's my understanding the the EHL 65 was designed before the introduction of the Plug-It and never redesigned/retrofitted.

The lack of the Plug-It cord is not because of the volts but because of the fact that the design is pre-Plug-It and Festool probably didn't feel to change/upgrade it yet because there's nothing wrong with the design as is.

well the rep said they don't recommend doing it as it could damage the planer because i was going to put one on myself as it does waste a bit of time for me doing doors as i use the of-1010 and ts55 ans the planer the plug in is one of the main reasons why i use festool

Of course they say that it can damage the machine. Not because of any volts but because taking apart an electrical appliance can render the machine dysfunctional of you do it wrong. To install the pigtail you have to open the casing. For most tech savvy people this isn't a problem, but there are many people who think they are tech savvy and really are not, and then mess up the machine. So it's only logical a company tells you to let any service be done by their licensed mechanics or they will void your warranty.

I was going to use the pulug in type that you just connect to wire not to fit to the body i think there in the cataloge ,
has eny body done it yet . I was going to do it to all my non-festool tools but ended up just buying new festool tool intead even though most of them were less than a year old [eek]

just got round to giving this a quick test and wow [eek] makes my bosch 26-82 look/feel/operate like a tractor.

im also intrested in the inline plugit conversion, save keep swapping plugs in the vac

Just put a multi plug adaptor into your vac.  Could also add a "y" connector & an extra hose & then no swapping out.  It is really usefull, especially when using the Kapex at the same time.

I used a multi plug adapter in my midi vac and the adapter started burning but i was using a generater to power it a bit scared to use one now worked fine with my trend vacuum though [unsure]

I've got a 1 to 3 adapter for my 110V, as has been said, useful whilst using the Kapex...

I have to say.. I am tempted by this planner, I've got the bosch, had it for at least 5 years I think...

Cannot get another tool... Can I ?

Tis the season, treat yourself, you deserve it.

I think the number 5 item is a "male" plugit, to repair damaged cords. The number 4 "conversion kit" is the "female" plugit, to convert non-plugit tools, and you have to open up the machine to attach the cord.

BTW, personally I really don't like the pigtails, I had one on my fein supercut for a while, but the green cable is very stiff, and made my supercut akward to use. I thought about putting one on my makita planer briefly, (I also use my ts55 and 1010 router for doors), but I REALLY didn't like it on the fein, so I surely didn't want it on my planer.

Bought one....

However... I purchased it from my local store (in winchester, uk)... They guys behind the counter had put me into a Xmas draw without me knowing... So, I walked out with my planner, some mince pies and a litre of whiskey... These guys know how to keep us happy... Alas, drinking half a bottle of whiskey then planning does have some issues....

how are you finding it so far?
did you get the free spare blade and chip collection bag?
