I mainly build custom cabinets, but occasionaly I do other things as part of a cabinet package. One of the things i do at times is wrap existing structural beams with a finished wood wrap, typically in a basement. Most of the time the beams are longer than what my lumber is so I have to splice them.I normally use a router  with a finger joint bit to make the splice.Since I just bought a Domino cutter for odds and ends,I thought maybe that would be something I could use it for.The Domino's would be alot easier (I think),but just  wanted to make sure it would make a good strong joint.

Yes it does make a very strong joint. The modern glues work extremely well on end to end joints.

Makes an excellent and very strong end grain to end grain joint.
In a recent project, (wall of windows) I used it to rebuild window sashes.

Thanks everyone for the replies!I just wanted to make sure it was a good choice over the finger joint, the domino will make it alot easier!

Definitely would use the Domino over dowels for end grain to end grain.

Matter of fact, I have some cedar soffits to hang this weekend and may use the domino rather than cut the boards to end at the joists.
