What is the sanding pad that comes standard with the ETS 150/3?  I believe it is 496148 but it could also be 496160.  If it is 496148, do I need the 496160 (Medium)

Has anyone had any experience using the other pads and do you really need the 496150 (Hard) when you get to the edge of the wood board?  If that is true, why not just use the 496150 for everything?

How about the 496145 (Extra Soft). Is that really needed and for what?

Thanks in advance.

With the hard pad, it won't wrap slightly over the edge and kill the sharpness plus it also keeps the sanded surface flatter.  The soft pad is great for curved or rounded stuff.

Ken,

You can correct me if I am wrong (I know you will) but I also think that some pads work better with certain abrasive disks.  For example, a thick disk, like Rubin, would not be a good match for a soft pad.  A flexible disk such as Platin or a thin disk like Brilliant would work well with soft disks.  I think that they all work pretty well with the mediums.

i believe that the standard pad is medium when it is offered for that particular model.

I think no one pad is good for all situations.  I found that out early by accidentally sanding over an edge of a raised panel door.  I will say the hard pad solved that issue and I use that most.  However the soft extension pad is perfect when using the 2000 grit paper.  I've become a great fan of the jetstream pads.  I replaced my oldones with those.  The paper is expensive, but it goes a long way.

Yes.  You just don't achieve the "full" benefit of the new design - greater extraction/pickup.

'Just so there's no confusion, the old pads were called Jetstream and the new ones are called Mulit-Jetstream.
