When a person writes a post and it exceeds the forum limits you don't know until you hit the post key. the message appears you have exceeded the limits.Probably more when pictures are involved. Once you have seen this you can hit the back key and edit/change your post to be of less size. The catch is that after you edit the post  to correct it and hit post again it tells you you have already posted this. It does not show up as a post and I was wondering where it goes?
To repost your post, you have to redo the entire post from start, starting over. Is there a way to alleviate this or is this normal for forums . This has occurred  several times, and in the learning curve it is kind of frustrating after spending the time to write a post. Is there a  size counter or such that could be added to the post area to let you know beforehand the size of you entry,or will  time/experiance prevail.
Thanks
Bill

Yes, that's happened to me too - there's some kind of bug in the system that thinks it's already been posted.

I haven't done any long post on this forum since i have nothing much of value to add, but on other fora where I can contribute I do the following:

1.  Write the post in an editor like Word.  When I am happy with the post I copy and paste it into the forum edit box.
2.  Submit the post, if it exceed the limits, then try again, but I only have to cut and paste a smaller amount, not retype the entire thing.

Unfortunately this doesn't help with embedded pictures, those have to be done over and over.

Bill,
There is no limit on how long your post can be, as far as the text is concerned.  So there is no reason to worry about that.

Limits only apply to photos and other attachments.  You'll see that there is a notice in the attachment area which indicates the limits of 125 KB for each individual attachment, 500 KB total for all attachments in a post, and a limit of 10 attachments for each post.

Some of you may notice that I updated the attachment notice so it is more informative.

Thanks matthew
and dan and everyone who has put in tremendous time and effort to write tutorials. It makes it possible for many of us to stumble thru the techno maze and learn how to do something that in turn can help others.
Keep it up, and many thanks again,
Bill

Bill it goes to a "Cyber Space Bit Bucket" that is located "just" over the edge of the internet.

After spending time writing something or creating or what ever on the computer, I sometimes hit a key and everything just goes away. After bugging my wife to find it, My wifes only response is anymore, ''Its gone",GONE," GONE," GONE," believe it."  Frustrated I start over. But now I know from you where it goes, wait till I tell her next time I know where it is!
Thanks for this perplexing answer,
Bill

Bill I feel your pain.

This might not be a popular thing to say to a guy from Seattle, but before "I fired Bill Gates" & bought an Apple one of my many nightmares with DOS/Windows happened on April 12th... while I was working on my income taxes, the Windows operating system crashed taking the FAT (File Allocation Tables) files with it.....  And  I couldn't do a recovery!!!!  Making a bad situation worse was compounded by operator error with my having a Cranial Rectum Inversion in not backing up as often as I should have...  I ended up having to input months of data only after doing a complete rebuild of the computer which included a new hard drive & a reinstall of the operation system, all applications & data.  Talk about a "bit bucket"!!!

So unfortunately I can relate to what you said "''Its gone",GONE," GONE," GONE," believe it."  Frustrated I start over."

Yes.  But things that fall off the edge of the world land on the turtle's back.  You can retrieve them but it isn't easy.

I have to wade through the odd socks, paperclips and spent ballpoint pens just to get to the mailbox.

I was pushed over the edge! (by my wife)

Eli, I would stick to that story if I were you.  Every so often I find the need to make the distinction of having been pushed off the turnip truck rather than having fallen off as so many otherwise  assume.  ;)

*OT as usual*

Absolutely no regrets, I only blame her when I have to. I was emailing somebody back in LA yesterday about how fortunate we were to sell when we did, as we might never have made it here otherwise.
