Extension Hose Solution (and is there a better way?)

My 5m AS hose is driving me a little nuts, so I'm going to split it in two. I used to have two 3.5m stiff hoses, and below is the solution I came up with to connect them together... but my first question is, is there an off-the-shelf solution? My modest shop has turned into a small production outfit so I don't mind paying for a good third-party solution if festool doesn't have one (and they don't seem to).

Basically I took the 36mm end to the Orange Box and checked the plumbing aisle and house brand vac area until I found something that fit snugly over it. I dremelled off the flange that it had, and that left me with a short connection piece, about 45-46mm internally. I then wrapped the outside with Festool Green masking tape until it made a compression fitting inside the antistatic vac end.

It's a very solid connection - I have to really yank them apart to get them to separate, so it never comes loose during operation. But it's a little bit jerry-rigged so I would much rather get a "proper" solution if one exists!

I’m going to suggest a more expensive solution to your problems. Buy another dust extractor and move it closer to where you need the end of that 5 meter hose. Doesn’t have to be a Festool but vacs come up rather frequently on the recon site and I see them from time to time on marketplace.

i mean sure, if i had the space and the money! but I have a very small workshop. the CT26 lives under my workbench and my boom goes everywhere. a long-enough hose with an extension for when i need it is perfectly adequate, I'm just wondering if there's a better way to join hoses. I only need about 3m on the boom to hit every corner of the shop, but every now and then there's something to get around or some other limitation and the extra length is handy to get under a bench or around the back of something. a separate unit, separate hose to manage, etc, is a bunch of headaches i've already designed out of my life

The main issue that you're running into with the picture you posted is using the stock piece that plugs directly into the vacuum port on the CT, and trying to mate to that. 

If you never need to plug the shorter hose directly into the CT, then the rubbery ends have much better coupling and many more options using standard connectors and couplers; Festool and many others make these couplers and connectors.

I thought this was perfect but upon reading closer, it sounds like you need two vac ends to use it? I am always running a tool end on my main hose, as shown in the photo. What I am hoping to find is a way to connect more 36mm hose, to the tool end. the extension doesn't need to have a vac end, but so far that seems like the only option

Can you point me to the coupler that connects a 36mm hose to another 36mm hose? that's exactly what I'm after, but I can't seem to find it. As noted in my post, that's the jerry-rigged solution I came up with to solve the problem for the hoses and connectors that I have. The whole reason for this post is that I can't find said connector anywhere, so if you know of a first- or third- party solution I would love to see it.

Just my opinion, but if the jerry rigged solution does everything you need, why look further?
(I do love $5 DIY plumbing aisle solutions tho...)

PVC pipe/PVC fittings and a HF heat gun you can make just about any custom sized vacuum part you need.
