I was hoping to call in today on my trip to UK but only had time for Axminster and Screwfix. I think I needed to call ahead anyway. Let us know how you get on with the tapes - I currently use BMI ones but have the flat fastcap one - just can't get on with it as the measurements are too far from te edge. Makes agood story stick tho

I have only just had a look at them about 3 hours ago so far........... my opinion!
The tape measure seems well made! I like how the imperial is displayed on the tape not the same way all my normal tapes display the imperial measurements! At first I was like umm dont know if I like it but after a bit I think I might prefer it.
I like how you can open up the belt clip to aid clipping your tape onto your trousers or belt
but the MAIN reason I wanted the tape measures was the built in PENCIL sharpener! I normally carry my knife and a small pencil sharpener but I often miss place the pencil sharpener and I dont really like sharpening my pencil with my knife. So I can see me really loving this feature on the tape!
The Pencil sharpener is good on the tapes!!
This brings me onto the pencil sharper on the AccuScribePRO Scribing Tool .........ummm now not so good! Actually very poor! Dare I say it CRAP! yes it is very poor its so poor the pencil supplied with it kept on breaking while I tried to sharpening it!! at first I thought it was just crap pencil with broken lead inside but I tried the pencil in the Fast cap tape measure pencil sharpener and it sharpened the pencil perfectly so it wasnt the pencil.
so
um at first glance AccuScribePRO overall quality seems mid range feels little cheap but saying this im pretty sure it will hold up fine on site. Ill see how it performs on site.
Now the Fast cap POCKET CHISEL I tried it out quickly with a lump hammer lol because thats all I have on me lol! Seems to hold up fine! I can see this being a handy chisel to have! Mainly to stop me from using my Harold & Saxons chisels on jobs where I shouldnt be using them.
Also being able to stick it in my pocket will be dead handy! Not only so I have it on me at all times! especially if im up in awkward places but also I have to be carefull placing my current chisels down incase they get kicked and damage the wooden floor or damage my chisels but with the pocket chisel I can fold it away keep it in my pocket OR place it on the floor still but dont need to worry about causing damage!

JMB, have you read the threads on the tapes, all the fuss is about dodgy quality on some of them... I guess you bought some many to get one that's good. [tongue] I say that jokingly, well sort of. I've have reasonable luck with the ones I have. The pencil sharpeners aren't that great, some don't work very well and none of them stay sharp for long.

JMB - with the fatboy pencil you don't need a pencil sharpener!
I've given up on regular pencils, trouble is I've got e everything from 0.3 to 1.3mm leads and can never find the right refil, so I end up with a pencil anyway. I've got anelectric sharpener in the shop gathering dust....

About them not staying sharp long it's not to difficult to resharpen the blades though is it.
I have tried all 7 tapes and all of them sharpen the pencil perfectly fine at the moment.
It's only been the accu scribe so far which has a poor pencil sharpener.

I own the BMI one and although I love the tape for quickly marking out circles it's not a very good tape measure to use as a day to day tape measure on site.

I find the Festool/BMI is for in the workshop only. It wouldn't last long on site.
Sorry that your pencil sharpener on the Accuscribe isn't up to par JMB. I just pulled one off the shelf and it sharpened the included pencil without any problems. I'll get it in the post to you today.

I would like to add my [2cents] to this review. I have used fast cap tapes in the shop for a little over a year. Today was "one of those days", like the Monday from you know where! I can attest to the fact that a fast cap tape launched at a wall full speed and 25 feet away, complete with one abrupt stop, still functions just like it did before said incident. [big grin]

I bought a few of the fastcap tapes - found the belt clip lost all of it's spring pretty easily.
The Accuscribe is a great idea, but the one I bought would not tighten to save it's life. Some molded-in teeth on the corresponding parts would have been a good addition to the design. As it is, you might need to throw a friction washer of some sort to keep it from slipping in use.
