here is a short video on a new tool bag from fastcap.  they are the company that sells 2p10 glue, the glue bot and lots of other ideas for carpenters and construction.  this bag sells for around $89 usa and you can add pockets and the center etc...  www.fastcap.com

Kreg,

Pretty cool product and, as usual, great work on the review.

Okay, it's got velcro, what else can you tell us about the bag.  What's it's made of, plastic bottom or not, made it China??  I just don't see the advantage of the velcro pouches and I'd hate lose a tool when the velcro wears out.....

That's pretty nice for 90 bucks.

What happened to 500.00 doctors bag?
I still have and use it. This bag I will use as my honey do bag for repairs etc

Brice. I will check when I get home on freeway now and get back

Come on Brice, making Kreg drive with his knee while typing.  Think of all the fun things you can do with a Velcro setup during break time.  Plus, kids can throw their toys at you while you're working and earn points for how much stuff sticks.  [big grin]

Or you could stick some velcro on your tools and then end of day cleanup would be a snap.

Good to see more reviews Kreg, you have been quiet lately.  I was wondering if you took that job building the cabin in Colorado after all.

Fastcap makes some great products but i'm worried about the longtime use of the velcro as it looses its cling from dust and use and I don't need a pair of pliers hitting the floor.  Only time will tell with this bag.  The price is a huge shock also as you usually get more tool for your money.  Thanks for showing it to us Kreg.

I like the concept of moveable Velcro pockets. Depending on what level of Velcro they use it could last a long time or fail soon.

I would  have to say that if from day one you set it up as you want your tools organized the any quality of Velcro should hold for a long long time.

Moving the pockets daily and using the strap as a tool belt... I don't think so, I as I see that Velcro failing too soon.

The price is right for even short term bag life (12-24 months) and my issue with most bags is they put pockets where they like them and then I have to adjust to how I have to organize and store tools.

So kudos to FastCap for making an adjustable bag.

The doctors bag at $500 is fine if I could tell them I want the pockets this size and in this order. To have to accept their placement at $500 is the painful part.

Now if Occidental Leather would send out a Dr. Wood® Tool Case that had Velcro pockets and you could make/configure it how you wanted and then send it back to them and they would build it as you wanted.... $500 -$600 would be way worth it.

I do think there is a place for adaptable tool belts...just today I needed Electrical tools on my belt at the top of a 8 foot step ladder, then I needed to move to screw gun and assorted screws, then move to assorted wire nails downs for Romex.

Cheers,
Stee

Dave, they might have to pay substantial fees for the Velcro name.

Quick-Belt Systems make some great adaptable belt setups, Carry what you need, how you like.

Though I agree with the velcro concerns, overall I've been very pleased with Fastcap products in general and their customer service has been on par with Festool.  One call and they fix it and or send you a new one!  Fast, courteous, and it's all about customer satisfaction, and keeping us happy.

http://www.repconnw.com/ also has Skillers tool vests, belts and harnesses with interchangable pockets etc.  Though they are discontinuing in the US next year ( Skillers is still available in the UK/Europe, the Skillers Flexi vest is great; takes all the weight of my back, plus all the extra pockets in the vest itself plus interchangeable pouches that hang off the vest itself.  Someone else mentioned it here in an earlier thread which is where I got the idea.  Nice piece of equipment!

Kreg - great video as usual! - when is the Kreg and Paul show hitting the road (Look out Gary Katz :) )!

Thanks for all your valuable personal time and efforts you take in sharing these products/options with us!!!  It's very much appreciated.

Cheers!

Thank you rookie!

Actually I am doing my first road show July 9th at highland woodworking in Atlanta. It will be an all day on how I make built-ins  and it is a class call highland at (404) 872-4466 to reserve your spot today

I will be mainly using festoons as that is what I use plus a few others. So call now as space is limited to the first 6,000 !  Just kidding. But it is limited to 25. So reserve now !

I don't use tool bags  but if I did I think a customizable one would be the way to go. Being able to choose the type , size and placement of pockets? Very cool!

As to the hook and loop wearing out I guess that depends on how often it gets rearranged. But if it is a quality hook and loop it should last very well. As to it not holding well enough? I don't know, I have used some hook and loop  things that are very hard to pull apart.

Don't like it, I'd go to pull it out of my truck while its wedged between a ladder, a stack of systainers and a case of beer and rip all the pockets off.  I'm still a lover of the closed top vetos.

Surely I'm not the only person who just wears a two-pocket nail apron, tape and hammer loop. Anyone else have a nice split leather one or a link? Mine's getting shiny on the front where I wipe glue.

I like the concept of the bagbelt, but I really don't see velcro in that place for me. Dust and dirt would be the end of it. I would for sure rip stuff off in the normal course of the day. I hate misplacing tools.

Here's my post from JLC:

"I think this bag is just like so many Fastcap products, close but not quite right. They've got some good idea but find a way to cut a corner or not fully think the product through. Too bad."
