February 8 new tool announcement

The TS-60 does sound nice, though. I have a TS-75 instead of the 55 for capacity reasons but was considering a cordless 55. Didn't see the announcements, but if a TSC-60 is in the cards, I may go for that.

Since the TS-60 can use the FSK rails, putting out a TSC-60 would really kill the HKC-55 in it crib; the poor thing is what, 3 or 4 years old at the most?  I could see them going corded TS and cordless HK, and really screwing up the blade selection for everyone...

I don't have a reciprocating saw so if that actually comes out, I might go for it. Using the Carvex for demo work is annoying and awkward at best.

Agreed.  Although the short blades on the PSC 420 can be much better than a recip saw.  In that case, barrel grip and cordless FTW.

Sadly, I was hoping for a 7/16" socket for the socket set... too much?!

I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!  [big grin]

I was disappointed of the online event as well, nothing new really since everything announced is already selling in Europe. The way it was organized was bad too.

Despite everything else having been somewhat "blah", I was totally delighted to see that Jess "Cupcake" Crow was in attendance!    [big grin]

Noticed that around the 3 minute mark of the video ZZ Top was even present... [tongue] [tongue]

Unfortunately, Festool USA has prioritized catering to their social media influencers and have lost site of the value the everyday craftsman brings to their product by "word of mouth" and honest tool reviews. I find it very hard lately to watch someone's video on any of the social media platforms and know that their affiliation with a tool company of a tool they are supposedly "reviewing" is as honest as it could be. After all, these influencers are nothing more than external sales individuals pushing a companies product that was given to them to use. Maybe the latest Festool Live show (2/8) was expected to have current users of Festool products be star struct by the influencers who are affiliated with Festool, but to me, it was like any of the major award shows on TV, full of BS and not worth my time to watch.

I will continue to use FOG as my source of reviews and feedback along with the latest news on Festool products.

Overall, very disappointed in what could have been a very informative event. I hope Festool USA reads the feedback and makes adjustments going forward.

I just got my ToolNut email. It looks like they've got a CTC Midi and KSC 60 slated for Spring 2023. Also taking preorders for the TS75 shipping 3/21.

In my last job, I did product marketing for a large bicycle company, and launching new products was a huge part of my job.  The parallels to Festool were large- these were highly desirable ($$), highly technical products with a loyal fan base that was always thirsty for new product info.

IMO, one of the biggest objectives of a new product launch is developing an emotional connection with the customer, making them feel like they're part of this awesome experience, and have an inside line on these cool new widgets. Instead, I felt very much on the outside with this event.  Viewers from home were reminded in multiple ways that we were not a priority for Festool, nor were we given the product details that were implied in the lead-up to this event.

Customers and key dealers/influencers have separate needs, and deserve separate events.  A 15 minute walkthrough of that space before the other guests had arrived would have been great.  It would have felt insider-y and we could have had a much more succinct presentation.

I know that Festool knows how to cultivate this relationship with its customers- Festool Live is a GREAT product.  Sedge is speaking directly to us, giving us insider tips, and I leave every one of those feeling closer to the Festool brand.

Fast forwarded through that video, and yes, it is a total embarrassment.

But hey, at the end of the day everyone of us has to go and lie in the bed we have made for ourselves, right?

Kind regards,
Oliver

Completely agree with your assessment. I, too, was excited to see the new goodies. I liked Sedge's walk-through of the guests, which reminded me of Peter Windsor's pre-race F1 pit walks. Jason Bent smoothly moved his beer behind him when he noticed the camera on him.

But those delays were intolerable. The online audience was an afterthought. Maybe in the future they could stream a brief demo/wrap-up at the end of the event. I'm surprised there was no follow-up email from FestoolUSA overnight.

The pieces are all there. Festool would benefit from tighter producing.

Looking forward to seeing the new tools in action.

Tuned in at 5 PM CST for the Youtube event at 6 PM EST, and it was postponed until 6:30 EST.

So I left work and went home and ignored it.

Checked around 7 PM CST once the boy was in bed and tried to watch the replay of the event.  Ten minutes of introducing all of the people in the room, with a brief pan across the CSC 50 "Table Saw in a Systainer", the KSC 60 Kapex, the CTC SYS (which is already in stores) and the CTC MIDI.

Then more walking around talking to people and then they cut the feed and said "We'll be back later but don't go away".

So then I stopped the YouTube video.

If I had been watching live, I would have probably tuned out at that point as well.  I find it rather rude, to be honest, to first delay the event 30 minutes and then to blow off your live remote audience by going to a blank screen?  I'd definitely be curious to see the view stats by timeline for the event.

During the opening, I saw the RSC 18 Recip saw in the background, but it wasn't mentioned during the intro section.

As of 7:40 PM CST, NONE of the new tools are listed on the Festool USA website.  The newest "New" tool listed is the MFT-HZ 80 clamp.

Overall, a swing a a wide miss, in my estimation.

Considering all of the tools were in the rumor mill already, and the images and sales links in Europe had already been linked, they could have at least admitted "hey, you've probably seen all of this, so we'll tell you what's coming to America this year", and then gone into demos and whatnot later.

Maybe I've gotten spoiled by Apple events and their immediate release of product information after an announcement.  I know Festool isn't Apple, but they're still big enough and have enough of a social media presence to know better.

Maybe the powers that be realize that orienting marketing towards us (FOG) is like preaching to the choir. No need. Just give us the data and we’ll do the rest.

The people who are influenced by influencers need more motivation. But it sounds like yesterday’s presentation (didn’t see any of it) might have missed that mark too…

I was expecting a different event showcasing the tools.  But before I turned it off I checked the description on YouTube and then I read:
[attachimg=1]

So I interpret that to mean that we were all invited to see who was invited and that those in attendance would be showcased the new products.  Guess I should have read that before turning on YouTube.

It was surprising to me that they kept the live event going with a stopped video and then had the chat continuing.  Either gutsy, a mistake, or wanting to read what the viewers thought of this style of presentation.  Maybe a combination of all of the above?  This video reminded me of their holiday live event.

Call me a dinosaur and social media neophyte but I just didn't get what was really accomplished other than possibly giving some influencers some face time at Festool USA and appealing to their followers.

Guess that the "Build Event" mentioned will be creating some more media buzz in the future.

Now back to the shop...

Peter

And  [welcome]  to the FOG.

I didn't watch the video (didn't even know it existed). It seems different people had different interpretations of what "showcase" meant, and hence some of the disappointments?

The biggest issue I would have had with the video/livestream, is the utter disrespect for the online audience's (their customers!) time & expecting them to actually stay on. Ridiculous.

Since I fast forwarded through it later on, I don't care. But if I had wanted to follow this live, I would have closed the stream a minute or two into the first "break".

Kind regards,
Oliver

Any ideas on when the cordless kapex and tablesaw will be available in the US?

"Spring 2023"

Which means it could be just about any time between March and July.

I was greatly annoyed in the first minute and stopped watching. It appears I made a wise choice. I will not bother going back.
