FEIT LED Shop Lights at Costco

I understand that Ace Hardware stores are supposed to stock these FEIT LED lights (according to FEIT), but I doubt the price would be as good.

Local area  (San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mtn View) Costcos are also out of these lights.  They did give out rain checks if you asked them.

Okay, I need about 10 of these now. They are much brighter than my (potentially dying?) T8 fixtures.

My garage is also ~10 deg above ambient though, so I bet temperature plays a big part in it.

I have been waiting on replacing  shop fixture with LEDs, It seems the cost has come down to do so, but what I have been doing more for task lighting is adding LED 11watt spot or flood lights and have been very happy with the results.  I also have (home & shop)  installed 40 solar panels, 36  for electric that brought my annual electric bill to below $50 for last year. So using and upgrading to LEDs has greatly help the cause!

These lights sold out at the Costco here within three days of going on sale.  I was hoping they would have more in stock since they are advertising them on sale, but when I went to pick some up last night, they were still out.  They were giving out rainchecks and said they were expecting to receive more stock.  We'll see.

I don't like the fact that they hum, and I'd want at least a 5K temp as 4K is WAY too yellow. But the fact that they have them at all tells me that the price is definitely coming down, and if I wait a little bit longer I can get what I want.

If anyone sees a good deal on something in the 5K-6K temperature range, please be sure to post?

I just put 2 more of these lights in my garage.

1) These 2 don't hum
2) I haven't seen any issues with interference with my garage door opener

I believe the issue with hum I'm seeing in my shop is due to the type of light switch I have.  My house has a Crestron home automation system and the light switch in the shop is a Crestron switch that is under control of the automation system.  Crestron switches can either be configured for switched loads or dimmed loads and I have this device configured for a switched load.  That being said there is still circuitry driving the on/off of the load and I believe there is an interaction with the FEIT lights that is creating the hum.

In my garage I don't have a Crestron light switch, I just have a Leviton timer switch that turns the lights off after 30 minutes to simply assure we don't leave them on.  This switch has an internal relay driving the load so it mimics a standard light switch.  Therefore I don't have any hum in this location.

So, the hum that I reported in my original post is not something that I would expect anyone else to experience.

If you'd like to check with your local Costco to make sure they are in stock before you visit, call them first and ask them to check stock on number 858582.

The coupon book I have indicates the special pricing ends on Sunday, February 22nd.

Here is more information on the Costco website.  Note that you can order them for delivery, but it looks like the $8 off per light special pricing is only available in the warehouse.

I went back this morning and picked up two lights.  They had about thirty left of the 120 they received yesterday.  There was a guy loading a cart with at least a dozen.  Even the checkout clerk remarked on how these lights were really moving.  Crazy.

The lights are brighter than the T-8 fixtures I have already installed.  I don't notice any humming.  Even if they did hum like an old fluorescent fixture, I probably wouldn't be bothered by it since I'm usually wearing earplugs in the garage anyways.  I installed one light just a few inches from my garage door opener, and tested it out the transmitters and had no problems.  The light is a lower color temperature than the fluorescents.  One nice thing about these LED lights is that they are instantly at full brightness when turned on.

Pricewise, they cost about the same as the fluorescent fixtures I have, once you add in the cost of bulbs and protective sleeves for the bulbs.

I just wanted to close the loop on the hum issue I reported in my initial post.

I double checked the settings on the Crestron keypad that was being used to control the FEIT lights in my shop.  The keypad was set to control a dimable load instead of a switched load [eek].  I reconfigured the keypad and the hum is now totally gone.  [big grin]

I ended up buying about 40 of these lights. I am definitely very happy with the light output and the color of the light is also very good.  The only thing I didn't like was I don't feel like there's a "professional " way to mount them.    I ended up building some three-quarter inch plywood better in the shape of a "U".    I have fairly long runs of lighting in my shop and built these beams in  16 foot increments for ease  of handling.  I've been drilled holes through the sheet metal shroud of these lights and screw them into the beers with some screws. I drilled holes through the bottom of the beam to run the cords up and I have outlet boxes installed on the top side of the beam so that I can plug them in and the cords are all out of sight and neat in appearance.    I feel the system gives a professional look as they are all lined up and nice and straight and I don't have to look at cords.

I bought some, tried one and returned them. One of the pictures on the box implied the cord could be easily removed for direct wiring but not so. I've got conduit running to 6 fluorescent fixtures and having to redo with outlets and have those cords to manage just seemed more hassle than it was worth. Plus I'd prefer bulbs in the 5K color temp range, these are closer to incandescent. If I was starting from scratch these would make more sense but not a good fit for me now. I'm sure folks will get good use out of them and I'll be waiting for another LED option to come.

Artthetoolman,
Looks nice and that's a great way to handle the cords.  It's good that it worked out so well for you.

By the time I went they were out of stock, but they gave me a rain check so I'm still waiting to get mine.  I don't have a very large space, but my ceiling is low so I have not figured out how I'm going to deal with the cords.

I don't have a Costco close to where I live, but accidentally found identical LED 4' long shop lights at Sam's Club for  $36 each. Different brand, but I would assume the same thing. So, for those of you who are members of Sam's Club, but not Costco, you can get them there also.

Do you have a product number?

It's just like a regular shop light fixture with an On/Off pull chain, a 5' cord, and chains to hang it from the ceiling.

My wife has hung 2 of them in her art/jewelry work area and they are very bright white.

They seemed be moving off the shelves at Sam's quickly. Seems like a good deal.

Found these 4' led shop lights at Home Depot, commercial electric brand. $39.00 I think? I got one to try out, I like it. Going to get a few more. Here's the info from the box. Silent too, no hum.

I just bought 4 of those last week. They're only $25 in MA but even at 39 it would be a good buy. I'm going to put one or two in my work van powered off an inverter.

Great find.

Related, but perhaps a stretch or a glimpse into the future, I just bought a ceiling fixture for a client who had over bulbs their old fixture and the heat had destroyed the wiring.  The new fixture is an led but the guts are not replaceable.  Interesting change for a light fixture.
