Festool Connect 2016 in Indiana?

...but still not near the population centers of the US. [dead horse]

I dunno...kind of reminds me of the street rod hosting thing many years ago. They couldn't decide whether to host it on the left coast or on the right coast. Eventually they decided that hosting it in the central/midwest region was "just right". Eventually, they decided to embrace the central location and have persevered ever since.

Back to the '50's came to mind for me as well @Cheese

We can all complain about where they are or aren't going to hold this.  Regardless, FestoolUSA is headquartered in Indiana and it would make sense for a company to host their get together in their own backyard.

I agree, and certainly more cost-effective for Festool.  Think of the money they'll be saving by not shipping all of those goodies to R.I. in tractor trailers, and the additional travel expenses for all the great staff.  Perhaps they'll turn that savings into more free stuff, or at least a decent systainer. Unlike the batteries that were easier for them to haul and didn't take up as much room. I wish I still had that battery now. I wanted to avoid getting anything for it, but ended up caving.  I'm starting to worry about what I've come down with these past 3 years.

It all started with a free Sys-toolbox 2, and now I'm in way too deep.  Talk about an effective marketing strategy!

There really needs to be an east coast and west coast one. "Central" means close to nobody. The middle of the country is quite vast and cities are way far apart. So if 90% of your attendees are flying in anyways...why not put it close to at least some people?

Or maybe switch it up every year, make it a fun "vacation" for people to see other parts of the country.

Well festool is about 45 mins from my town. I couldnt be happier that the connect is so close. Since "no one" lives around here, guess I will get all the free prizes myself!! I mean really, all that is around me is corn fields and interstates that take you to somewhere better than here!!!!!

But this is a natural progression for Festool, as it's in their home and it's centrally located - ensuring way more customers and potential customers can and will attend. I'm going for sure and hope you can too.

Sorry to tell you guys, but Indiana is called the cross road of America for a reason.

While noteworthy if you're a transcontinental truck driver, for any other occupation, it's only reasonably accessible by air for 98% of the population.

Or snowmobile.

Wow this is great. I think having it in the middle of the country is great. I kept seeing Festool Connect year after year out east it is a 14 hr drive for me. Now having it at their headquarters sounds like a great idea. They can show off their global headquarters , training rooms, Show people how there service works and actually see how things are done. I am sure they will put on a first class event, and I will be there.

Well to start off, California has ~38 million people. LA and surrounding areas has about 18 million, which is 9x the population of Indianapolis metro area.

Seems like an easy way to reach a lot of people at once, and those of us north of the Mason-Dixon would probably welcome a sunny trip in the dead of winter.

NYC metro area is topping 23 million, but lacks the promise of good weather.

Anyways, debate away:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combined_statistical_area

With all the back and forth about number of bodies in a given area, I wonder which geographic area has the highest concentration of Festool owners?

While each of us may have preferences as to where this Connect event (or any large event for that matter) should be hosted I think Throwback7r stated it well.
But my understanding is Festool will have a presence at the RI JLC event in March for those interested in getting a hands on.

My money is on the North-East area.

And California.

Personally I am glad to see the event moving to Indianapolis.  As pointed out already the cost and opportunity cost of putting on the event there as well as the logistics and highlighting their efforts to provide training for users all work towards making it an even better event.

When the event was held last year at JLC the convention center had converted the huge meeting room for more display space.  That required relocation to the sports complex next door.  I can't even imagine the cost to rent that space.  Then add in all the logistics of trying to do the largest convention of the year and then doing a huge event the day before with all the set-up and break-down and you have additional havoc.  Then add in the inflated costs of the venue and the "make the money while you can" and the scale moves even more towards choosing your own date and place and taking advantage of the home court advantage.

Many years ago when I wanted to do something like this - before the Connect became a reality - in the conversations had I talked about the future and eventually having it in Indy.  Cool to see it happening.

My next wish was for the event to become a multi-day event with multiple training / demonstrations going on at the same time and repeating thru the day.  And unofficial social events during the off-event hours.  We'll see when in the future that comes to be.

Evolution will happen.  This is a relatively new event and this year will provide real honest information that can be used in the future in all sorts of ways.

Just my thoughts.

Peter
