Festool Drill - Opinions vs. Hilti

I have the hilt impact and drill 14 lithium and loved them. I then bought a c12 and fell in love. I then bought a second c12 and barely ever use the hilti drills. I use the impact still but the drill never gets used. The c12 has more than enough power and the chucks really set it apart from anything else. Now my hilti set is 3 years old and it still works great and there batteries are amazing they last so long and charge in 20 minutes. But I just sent the impact out because the 1/4 chuck wasn't holding bits and there warranty department stinks. There was nothing else wrong with it and said it wasnt worth repairing and charged me $90 for a replacement. They won't give me the option of sending it in and if it's not cover under warranty calling you and asking what you want them to do. You have to agree to a price cap before they send it out.  Which the rep said it should be covered and if not shouldn't cost that much at all.  I was very upset with there warranty and customer service when I called. I would stick with Festool there much better.

Wouldn't touch a Hilti drill. They do make nice lasers and concrete hammers though, but steer clear of their drills.

i have a 4year old hilti drill which holds a great charge and my mate a 7 year old hilti drill which hold charge well, chinha made yes but by their own factory well theirs and panasonics. And if they are working with panasonic the battiries will be very good. Typical US crap, talking rubbish about stuff made in china, At the end of the day stuff is built to a specifacation. FFS apples products are all made there!

You asked "why" and I told you. Like I said in a recent Kapex thread here at FOG, I do NOT sugar coat my opinions, if a tool sucks it sucks, if it's ok it's ok and in the rare event it's awesome... I tell it like it is.

As for the made in China thing goes, trust me when I say there is not .10 worth of equipment in my workshop made in China, not so much as a #2 tip. I think you might have been a wee bit out of line when you said "typical US crap", and thats ok because I've said plenty of things I kinda regretted in my life and plenty told me I was a wee bit out of line, but I thought I'd tell you because you asked.

I'll trust that statement to be correct when you also tell me your shop is located in some far out region of this solar system, like Mars or Jupiter. If not, there's something China made in your shop or you're not being serious.  

There is such a huge amount of stuff now fabricated in China that it's impossible to avoid it. And like Dean said, it's made to specification, so they simply deliver what the buyer orders.

You aren't going to be dissapointed with any Festool drills.  I have the C12 and am continually impressed with the power and battery life.  I work with half a dozen guys that use Dewalt, Hitachi, a bunch of Makita, Milwaukee, and even Hilti drills and they all go for mine when it's sitting out.  I have to pack the dang thing up so it doesn't get abused! lo

PLUS... you can return it within 30 days at no charge!

You should try it.  If you add up the cost of all the attachments vs. how many drills you'd have to own to equal a Festool you actually save money!

I own both drills and like them both.  The Hilti has the benefit of the hammer drill and the Festool has the different chucks.  Battery life on the Festool is better IMHO and you can get it in smaller areas.  It is also much lighter.  It is slightly more powerful, but honestly I have drilled 3/4 inch auger holes through 4 inches of hard maple with the Hilti and it had no trouble, so I am not sure there is much of a difference in that department - they both perform well.  I did not sell my Hilti when I got my T15 and I use both a lot.  If I had to have just one it would be the Festool.  But being able to add an impact driver with the same batteries on the Hilti is nice too.

I have had two Hilti's (a 12 volt drill and a 15.6 volt hammer/drill) for several years now as well as the Festool T15+3. I use them all but find the balance and versatility of the multiple chucks of the Festool to be a real world advantage. The power of both the Hilti 15.6 and the Festool T15+3 to be about the same. The Hilti has a "T" handle that can be put on for added leverage and by the way, both of my Hilti's were made in Mexico not China and all four batteries were made in Japan. That being said, at least 90 percent of the time, I find myself grabbing the T15 it just has a nicer feel and plenty of power. IMHO!

Well I got the t15 today and used it with the depth stop to hang some drywall, I really like this drill, the battery seemed to hold up great. I hung a 12x8 sized bathroom all on one charge and it still had plenty of juice left over to mix mud. I have to assemble a children's playset tomorrow and there are aa bunch of lags to put in so I will test out the power!

And they are by far the best drill bit i ever used!!!

It;s just a little plastic container,  But it is good,still holds the bits!!!!
