Has Festool ever sold a fixed base router before?  I wonder why they don't now? I know I would buy one if they did.

I guess you could consider the MFK700 a fixed base router.  Its a great little machine when used within it capabilities.

Well, buying a router table and a fixed base router is in my future.  I have the OF 1400 but I know it's not recommended for mounting to a router table.

Speaking of router tables, has anyone used a Festool Router to mount to a router table?

I suspect that Festool might consider their plunge routers to be the equivalent of any fixed base router with the secure locking mechanism they have for the plunge action.  If the plunge lock is rock solid what is the point in having a true fixed base?  It seems that one of the things people would like to see for the 700 trim router is in fact a plunge base...Festool or MicroFence...

As for router table use, aren't the most popular solutions to use the router lifts today with a simple router motor, rather than using the router lift mechanism itself.  Myself I am not really a router table guy...

Best,
Todd

I recently added the 1400 to my router stable and love it from the groun up.  There are very few activities that I cannot say it would not be good at.  To me a fixed base router is best for the router table and in that instance it needs to be a hos like the PC7518.  If they did make one a d-handle would be nice as some operations make that a sweet thing to have.  I also have the 890 PC that has a plunge and fixed base and its a good router, but the DC is horrible.    Thats one of the reasons I went with the 1400.  I rarely pull out the PC except when doing dovetails on the leigh that second router set up is nice to avoid the switch over time.

In Europe Festool sells the CMS system with base plates to mount various routers and saws. So at least Festool thinks it's possible, yeah.

I have the CMS-table with inserts for the TS55 and the OF1010. And I love the set-up. I think the buyers of the technical marvels of Steve will get the same thrill.
