I suspect that Festool might consider their plunge routers to be the equivalent of any fixed base router with the secure locking mechanism they have for the plunge action. If the plunge lock is rock solid what is the point in having a true fixed base? It seems that one of the things people would like to see for the 700 trim router is in fact a plunge base...Festool or MicroFence...
As for router table use, aren't the most popular solutions to use the router lifts today with a simple router motor, rather than using the router lift mechanism itself. Myself I am not really a router table guy...
