Festool folding rule

Out of interest, are there many others who are after one of these aside from Scott? According to numbers I could buy a few and mail them over.

I don't know if this matters to anyone, but the rule that was a limited edition here was made by Stabila.  The model that is available in Europe evry day for considerably less appears to be made by ADGA.

I bought several metric only folding rules made by Wiha.  I believe it is a Swiss company.  There is a website for sales in the US. 

I don't recall the price I paid but it was quite reasonable. 
 
I tried tracking down the Festool folding ruler about a month ago too. No luck... every dealer I spoke to said they were long gone. So I picked up the Wiha Metric/Inch folder. It's made out of a fiberglass composite and seems to be pretty rugged. The embossed measurements seem sharper than others I've used, making it easier to read. The one thing I preferred on the Festool (Stabila) version was that the metric and inch measurements were on the same side. This made converting from one to the other pretty easy. The Wiha has metric on one side and inch on the other (sides being front/back not left/right).

Yes, and it is not quite as solid seeming as the US Stabila version rule. It doesn't seem junkie though.  Also it is only metric as opposed to the combo inch/metric US rule.

Well I hope it's still in stock.  I just ordered a Festool folding rule from  thefestoolstore.com

$25 with free shipping.   Got to love the free shipping.  

I check out Amazon for a metric folding rule made by Wiha.  I thought about picking that up, but some how found myself on the festoolstore web site.

Good thing because I have been trying to buy the Festool rule for a while.  Just could never find it.  But I also didn't look to hard.

I am slowly moving towards measuring everything in millimeters,  thanks to Festool!  

I even told someone at work to cut me a 2x4 at 406mm's.   His responded "what the heck is that?"  I said "16 inches man, get with it!"  

OOPS!  I'm the only one at work that uses the metric system I guess.   [unsure]

though not officially a festool folding rule, I ordered a small metric folding rule from amazon
 
I got mine from Steve Bace at a Woodcraft show last winter in Chandler, Arizona. I traded a Fein folding rule that my buddy Jack the Fein Rep gave me.

Thanks to a fellow FOG member, I finally added the Festool folding ruler to my collection [big grin]. I took a few photos of the Wiha and Festool. It was early and I was too lazy to turn all the lights on, so forgive the lack of tack sharpness. 

I do still prefer the embossed markings on the Wiha over the screened markings on the Festool.  However, I find Festools (Stabilas) combined metric/inch markings on each side really handy. Too bad the Festool has to go in its glass display case now...  kidding.

 
I've never used one of these before. Why do you like them? What is better about them than a tape? Obviously they're lighter which would be nice...

It'll be interesting to see the responses.  Me, I don't get the appeal.
