Festool is getting expensive!

Let me make things a little clearer

I don't expect a short piece of wood that was on the floor( it did not fall from a height) it was leaning and just toppled onto my ct26 and broke it.

I would expect something, anything that fell of a scaffold to suffer some damage exactly as you describe

It is all about physics.....my Son drops his iPhone and nothing happens, my Daughter drops hers and the screen shatters (both dropped from the height of a bed, and in a case).

That's French scaffold for u..
Yeah exactly - just two tall trestles jobs and a couple of planks. I hate that slow motion thing when you see it happening and you aren't quick enough to do anything about it.....

Sorry to hear about your experience, but real happy to hear that you didn't have time to try and save it.  Every time I have tried to save a tool falling from heights I have cursed at myself  later for doing it.  Then I had to get down and change my shorts.  Not worth it.

Peter
Yes you are right there Peter. I was on the edge of chasing it... could have ended up having a real bad day!!!

Yes Festool is expensive that's for sure, however nobody touches them for sanders, extractors and of course Dominos, there's just no comparison. I would hate to work without them now.

I don't know about "untouchable". Mirka and fein offer some not too shabby products. There's quite a few people who feel the bosch 1250 dual mode is just as good as the ro150. For a couple hundred less.

The main thing that draws me to festool is the readily available accessories, even if they are very expensive. With other company's it can be quite a task trying to purchase some of the accessories they offer...

I'm waiting to read how the Makita or Dewalt track saw is as good or better than the
festool. I'm contemplating a ts75.

I was considering buying the DF 700XL.  It took me a while to choke down the price. Went to buy it last week and got pissed when I seen it only comes with one cutter..  The least they could do is include one of each size cutter and maybe some dominoes... They nickel and dime you to death on everything from vac bags, hoses, sand paper, parallel guides, ect ect....It pissed me off to the point I walked out without buying it. I like their tools but I am fed up with their gouging on the small stuff. Not sure I will buy any more festool because of it.

Hey you need to get yourself back down to that dealership and buy the 700 you will not regret it.

come back and tell us when you have..

I have never compared the saws so I will not offer my thoughts on that.  But if you are looking at the TS75 I am not sure that Makita or Default has a comparable model.  I only did a quick search though.

I'll add my comments.  As others mentioned, some of the tools Festool makes are worth it.  Domino and sanders are the main two I think.  Domino is a game changer.  Slip tenons to construct anything.  Fast and easy and accurate.  Nothing compares.  No matter what the cost, its worth it.  Sanders are highly regarded.  Since sanding is the finish surface, it matters.  Maybe any price is worth it.  Track saws were unique a few years ago and Festool was the first.  Worth it then, but now there are competitors with the same track saws.  All the other tools.  High quality yes.  More functional?  Maybe, maybe not.  Higher priced?  Yes except maybe Metabo or Mafell.  Worth it?  Not really since tools half the price can do the same thing.  When you go to the grocery store and buy a gallon of milk for $3, do you hand them $6 and say keep the change?  If so then Festool is your tool.

Thanks Peter for your response,
I have somewhat, the ts75 cuts about 3/4" deeper, nothing I have seen other than a Mafell comes close. But comparing the two, Festool's price is reasonable. You get alot more with Festool for less money.
As far as this thread goes I guess I understand these tools are expensive but I like every tool I purchased, I have many and don't have many regrets.
After getting a 3" metabo sander and not liking it, can't sent that back. How expensive was that? I got the ro90 what a great little sander. I guess I can't really contribute to the theme of this thread. sorry.

I think Festool has always been expensive which is the reason it took me several years of looking before buying. That being said I still believe you are getting a quality product at a quality price. I have been one of the more fortunate ones and have never had any issues with my tools.

Flatsawn,  I own four Festool sanders, a CT26, one cordless drill, a Kapex, and the Domino.  I love them all.  I'm retired and have no need to hurry.  I expect I am done buying green.

I have a small collection of Blue Bosch including a hammer drill.  My limited cordless stuff is Makita.  I prolly won't switch.  All their stuff runs off the same batteries.

I do NOT have a green track saw.  I have two deWalt tools, their small router and their track saw fitted with a Freud blade.  It is spectacular.  Cuts deep and true with polished cuts.  Festool cannot tempt me away from the deWalt track saw I own.  FWIW, the operation of their small router (trim router?) is silky smooth.  Not tempted to replace it either.

I am fond of Festool stuff where I think they excel.  Otherwise I consider other options.
