Festool new $99 sander

Local vendors here in Canada say it is a brushless motor.

The reason Festool didn't go brushless on this new model is because they'd have to raise the price. Their thought was to make several incremental improvements on the new model but price it the same as the older model.  [cool].  That increasing US market share thing again.

The older ETS 125 didn't have one?

Nope, that's the reason that when I purchased the newer EC version it was such an eye opening experience. The EC's a beautiful sander but the pad brake is the best feature.  [thumbs up]

The old ES, ETS 125 sanders do have a pad brake.

That's what I thought, that the new EC sanders have a Carbide Pad Brake, which was different from the material used in the earlier sanders.... [huh]

Does anyone know what size Systainer this sander is going to come in?

Also, it says it uses "Interlocking dust port – works with latest generation of CT Connector for improved retention".  Will it still work with my CT26  (1 year old)?

It comes in a special edition blue Systainer, SYS 2.

Yes, the dust port is backward compatible and will work with any 27mm hose.

Well that's interesting, if that's the case then mine has never worked because I've always had to chase it down the bench.  [eek]

It had a collar for braking. Your collar probably wore down or was broken in some way. They are a user replaceable part - 489 190.

Thanks [member=3373]Dovetail65[/member] for the part number, I'll dissect it tomorrow and take a look. While I'm at it I will also look at that pesky on/off switch that sometimes needs 2 hands to operate.

I'm slightly confused about the hose compatibility with this sander. The website documentation says it is compatible with the latest generation CT connector. Do you happen to know the part numbers of the hoses and/or dust extractors with this connector?

There is no need for concern, both the new and old style hose connectors will work with all new and old tools.  In other words, there is no compatibility issue at all.

Matt, we have a few threads going on about the new sanders and the $99 promo. There's a lot of information over in a thread I started that may be helpful.

The new sanders, and presumably all new Festool power tools, will have this new bayonet-style locking hose port.

If you have an existing Festool hose, it will work with this new connector without modification, using the same friction fitting as you make with your current Festool tools. The locking port is completely backward and forward compatible. It will work with any 27mm hose.

The new PRO 5 sander will come with a retrofit connector that you can swap out on your current hose. This will convert your current hose to the locking style connector. The locking hose connector is also available for purchase separately.

I hope this clears things up some for everyone.

I want to buy a bunch of new sanders soon.

My question is how long do I have to wait until I know the new connectors will be on the sanders I purchase?

I just now came off my ladder for the 4th time today because the hose keeps coming off my ETC and RO 150 sanders.

I want that new connector on all my Festools!

I think I understand now. I was wondering if new CT extractors come with this locking port, but since you can buy the connector, it's not a big deal. Thank you very much, and sorry to make you repeat yourself so much today :)

[member=3373]Dovetail65[/member], no word on when the transition will happen to other tools.

Matt, you won't have to buy a new hose connector.  New tools (with the new bayonet-style locking hose port) come with the new hose connector included free with the tool.

EC = "Electrically Commutated" = Kraut for "Brushless".

Used By Festo, Metabo, Mafell, Robert Bosch, Kress et al.

I'm getting some inquiries on another forum about whether or not Fein vac hoses will accept the Festool hose end so it'll work with this sander.

I do know that I can stick the Festool hose into my Fein Turbo 1 so that's what I do but the Fein hose end is hard plastic and does not like the Festool dust ports.

Any insight?

Why don't you try it out with your Festool hose end and Fein hose.
