Festool Radio SYSROCK BR10

I agree Peter the average car still has fm and would expect an average tool manufacture to be the same

My last car had FM which was fine. My new car has DAB which is brilliant but less than 70% of the new cars sold in 2015 in the UK have DAB. Hardly any had DAB last year. We will have FM with us for a long while and nobody has given up FM yet. The UK switchover has slipped and slipped.
I am a DAB convert and love the variety on offer but on the average construction site I hear the usual stuff readily available on FM.

If you have a Bluetooth connection then most of us can stream any digital station that we like so why worry about an FM only Sysrock which can do Bluetooth? I have replaced all of my old radios with DAB except in my ear defenders which are FM but with their Bluetooth connectivity I can listen to any radio station in the whole world not just local DAB.

The lack of DAB is a real pity but lets get it in perspective and give Phil a bit of support ...

In which country in the whole world has FM finished? In which country in the whole world has DAB taken over completely from the established FM stations?

No need rush to answer - lets leave it to 2017 which is when the first European country was scheduled to switch to DAB.

The Sysrock may not be perfect but neither is the average car (with its FM radio).

Peter

Which is essentially a shame (or what others are calling a miss). Releasing something that's "not perfect" when most other manufacturers are hitting the target exactly with their offering.

Let's not forget, regardless of analogue to digital switchover targets, some of us listen to stations only on DAB and for that reason, they (Festool) will miss out on a lot of sales. That's a shame for them, don't suppose they care, clearly they don't care enough to have polled some people in a marketing style group hug before finalising the design, but that's by the by.

It's also a shame for people like us who would probably jump at a radio that would let us use a spare battery for a system we have already bought into. And then you have someone like me who is stuffing a Bosch battery into a Makita radio purely because I only have Bosch batteries spare (nothing Makita (apart from the radio) in my line-up) and the Bosch radio doesn't offer DAB either.

Still, it's done now.

Also, nobody is having a go at Phil, why would they? It's all a bit embarrassing for Festool if you ask me, which nobody did, clearly as I'd have said "put a DAB on it, 40% of new cars did as standard in 2013 according to the AA".

Anyone from within Festool UK care to comment on the lack of DAB?

Hi
I.T issues prevented commenting earlier on.
DAB in the UK has good coverage along with some other countries - that is not the case everywhere hence the reason no DAB.
Rg
Phil

I'm sure DAB isn't available everywhere. However, there are some countries in Europe where the FM system has already been switched off, or is due to in the next year or so.

So FM isn't available everywhere, either.

I know you're only repeating the company line Phil, so no offence to you, but that's a pretty feeble excuse for what seems like a massive oversight.

Hi
Company line - yes but not a feeble one. I live in Bury (Suffolk) and guess what......I have no DAB signal here and the feeble excuse I was given is that we live in a small valley - more of an incline really!! When DAB is truly accessible to all then maybe it will change but until then analogue it is - Somalia and Mauritius included  [smile]
Having said that give the radio a go when you see it......the sound quality is excellent, Bluetooth music files for individual playlists, run it on 12v, 15v or 18v battery, the higher the voltage the better the base performs, receive calls through the radio and you do not need to make a second trip to the van to collect it unlike some others on the market. Portable, easy and yes I like it - for the sound quality  [eek]

Hi
Nobody has had a go at me [blink]. I represent Festool U.K on the forum and take the rough with the smooth on comments on products and some are easier than others - this one is a bit harder but I will feed this back to the right person and yes they do listen.

Just to emphasise my point...

DAB would have been a good idea for the Sysrock but it is not there. But...

Could have done that with just an Aux in and saved themselves about a quid in a chipset and a button on the front, but I take your positive spin.

I hope you can feed it back Phil, you could offer a trade in for the FM button in a couple of years  [big grin]

Ok, price I will need to check up on - best to get it correct. F.M only.
Like I said I do not take the comments personally on the products and anything relevant is fed back to H.Q.

As someone with a fairly strong interest in speakers and who owns a lot of them I advise everyone looking for a good bluetooth speaker to look at the UE Megaboom.

Extremely loud, if I recall correctly it's 90db but don't hold me to that.
360° sound, waterproof, rubber overmold, has a metal loop at one end so you can attach a rope or wire.
It lasts 3-4 full working days on a single charge depending on the music you play. Charge time to full in just over 2 hours.
30m bluetooth range that actually works as advertised and can connect 2 different bluetooth devices at the same time.
It can also be paired with other UE speaker products to extend the range or make it stereo.

Seriously, with this small formfactor, volume and battery life, it's the most practical and impressive bluetooth speaker on the market today.  There's others like JBL Xtreme, that has better sound quality, and the Beats Pill, but when you look at the total package and ruggedness, the UE megaboom is the best speaker available today in my opinion.

Sorry, but aren't you folxwearing ear defenders when working with powertools?

I do a lot of not powertool work, so that's when I listen to music. Good point though!

Festool UK are using a different line on Facebook in defence of the many people moaning about the lack of DAB.

"Thank you for the feedback regarding DAB+ on the first launch of our new SYSROCK radio. We wanted to explain a little to why DAB+ is currently not on this launch product and hopefully answer some of your questions.

There are significant international differences regarding DAB-coverage. That’s why most DAB+ devices are equipped with a FM-Tuner as an alternative option. Our SYSROCK would have needed a hybrid antenna, so with the short antenna design this would have been a compromise and could have resulted in possible reception problems. We came to the decision that our first version of the SYSROCK will be a FM-Radio with Bluetooth function to cover the needs of all our international customers. We are aware that DAB+ may gain more relevance within the next few years, hence the SYSROCK´s concept is open for a follow-up version with DAB+ at a later date."
