Festool top sales

I like going into our Woodcraft store. Great selection and helpful staff. However, my experience re Festool at our Woodcraft is that there is a low level of Festool product knowledge.

I find Highland Woodworking has staff who are highly knowledgeable of Festool products. The staff is every bit as helpful and friendly as at Woodcraft. They also have a shop area where a customer can try out a tool.

The stock at the two stores overlaps a little, but with both stores plus a Rockler in the area, most needs can be covered with an hour's drive time. Rockler stopped carrying Festool some time ago.

I was in Atlanta on business a couple of weeks ago and stopped by Highland Hardware for a couple of hours.  The selection was pretty amazing, lots of high end tools including a great selection of Festool.  Since I was flying, I settled for a Narex rasp - I've wanted to try one out for a while.  Tried to carry it on back to CO and was turned away by the TSA. Apparently any tool over 7" must be checked, even if there is no edge.  I hate it when the TSA folks roll their eyes and give me that "what were you thinking" look.  Fortunately I had the time to check it.

The Hawaii Ohau Woodcraft Store is the number one store in sales overall out of all the Woodcraft Stores.  I couldn't believe it.

Is it all the cheap Koa? Mango? Milo? Kamani?  Good stuff that would certainly motivate me to help the local Woodcraft along.

Or maybe the fact that Hawaii COL is so high but the store can still only charge Festool standard prices - it keeps the relative price of Festool down to a reasonable % of the yearly salary?

Dang! I've got to get to Hawaii some day.

There is nothing like the love of the Festool elitists.

An "elitists"!!  I can't believe my luck... I have now been classified as an "ELITIST"!!!  I have waited all my life for this.  Thank you soooo much [member=1903]JD2720[/member] , for bestowing this title on me.

Now what shall I do on my first day of elitism... (let me think... hmmm....)  I know, perhaps I will order some new Festools from Bob.  No that wouldn't be elite enough.  I KNOW!  Maybe I can fly to Hawaii to see if that Woodcraft store does indeed sell the most Festools...heck, they probably sold them all to me and that is why they are the #1 seller of these darn fine tools in all of the universe.  Without elitist me and my elitist money, they would never survive.  The state of HI would implode due to the economic failure of my personal money keeping them afloat (both figuratively and literally [and yes I know that islands don't really float... only ducks and witches do])  This still isn't good, I can't think of anything really good to do with my elitists funds and attitude.  Perhaps I will spend my money to hire a staff to come up with new ways to snark at dealers in this forum when they ask a simple question.  That's it!  I have found my next elitist task for the day.

Thanks again [member=1903]JD2720[/member] for the title.  Time to change my avatar and signature line.  I own the internet today which is Pi day so it has made me a very happy Elitists!

cheers.  Bryan.

Guys, thanks for that support, but I don't want this to turn Foggers against Foggers. For whatever reason, JD2720 took offense to my comment and question. His issue is with me, so be it. No offense was intended on my part, but I apologize for nothing.

Back to the original posts, I can see why some people are curious as to who is the top seller/sellers , but years ago, when I asked my Managers about that, they all said the same thing, "that is not something we will discuss with the dealers." Which is what Tyler mentioned.

No worries Bob.  Subject dropped.

I also think that it is human nature to be curious who is "the best" or has the best numbers on stuff like this.  Polls and heat maps of data are part of most people's (internet) lives these days so the curiosity is there.  I think it is part of the sales world to show, and use as proof, the revenue from what you sell.  It of course is only a small portion of the Pi  [wink].

cheers.  Bryan.

Seriously?! Taking shots at each other on Festool sales curiosity topic?

Yes, drop it.

Now, there are two Woodcraft and two Rocklers plus Highland Woodworking in the metro ATL.

That's just it, we have ONE place to buy festool or any top end tools for that matter, the woodcraft, there is a store in maui but bottom line is, we go to woodcraft or like me, give my business to toolnut=)

That has been my experience also, and why I ended up buying from
ToolNut. Three people in my local Woodcraft and not one of them could
answer even the simplest questions. There is no other brick and mortar
store within 40 miles so it's off to the WWW when they fail to have what
I need or don't know their butt from a knothole about something.

The local building supply started to handle Festool a little bit age. Gee what an embarrassment. Both stores have only one 4' rack double side. And a mft table as displays. They don't even know how to set up the mft right. The amount of consumables is a joke. Two choices of jigsaw blades and some sand paper.
I even offered to the manager to teach a class either to the employees or to customers.
So far I only bought a box of paper and it wasn't even the grit I was hoping for. But I needed it.
Oh well
Rick

Back when we were in western burbs of Chicago, went to the closest woodworking store to make a serious purchase of Festool tools and expendables.  Enthusiastic sales guy met us and when I mentioned Festool, he wanted to show me some "... much less expensive stuff that was just as good."  When asked about the MFT/3 he said that it was "... worthless and way over-priced."

We left, and I called Bob Marion.  So much for supporting local brick and mortar.

In NoCo we have two pretty good stores, Woodcraft (Loveland), Sears Trostel (Fort Collins).  One has more knowledgeable sales staff and less selection, the other fewer knowledgeable sales staff and more selection.  Of course neither can match the mail order stores for overall selection, but they can handle 70% of what I need.  Not a bad balance.

I think McGuckins in Boulder also carries Festool, but that's twice the distance for me, so I've never been there.

I get the "only game in town" aspect.

What I cannot believe,  is that demand on the island of less than 1million has such an appetite for Festools that it makes the store #1 in sales.

Since NCAAM's will be settled tonight and I still have a compulsion to fill out brackets, I pick Bob Marino as #1 seed in the East. [popcorn] [popcorn] [popcorn]

I have a woodcraft right around the corner from me.  I drive 2 hours sometimes 2+ due to traffic to Anderson Plywood for my Festool fix. Why ? they have it in stock and woodcraft never seems to but the biggest reason is that they know the product and Woodcraft does not.  Anderson, by the way has the largest in-stock inventory of Festool I have ever seen in one place, its literally a toy store, it would be interesting to see where Anderson is on the list of retailers.  Luckily unlike those on the Hawaii Islands, I have a choice where to fondle prior to purchase.

Of course I did place 2 separate orders with toolnut over the weekend, so I do vary where I throw my money around but Festool wise, I doubt it will ever be woodcraft again.  If I want it today, I will drive to L.A. if I can wait, it will be toolnut.

I've bought from various venders including local...40 minute drive.  Hartivlle, Bob Marino, and Toolnut/Festoolproducts.  Bob is great and gives personal service...when I say personal, I mean Bob answers the phone!!  Toolnut is great in that they carry a full, and I mean FULL line of contractors equipment.
