Festool USA Website

Both ping and traceroute will fail if the server is set up to ignore echo requests.  This is very common with firewalls, and is independent of whether a web site on the same machine is accessible (http is a different protocol).  Matthew's results suggest that there was some connection problem along the route between his IP and the Festool site, but don't actually prove why or where.  Sounds like it has been fixed, though.

Good Evening,
One thing that came up in this discussion that somehow went right by me -- someone mentioned that Graphex (Sean) is the designer of the new Festool USA Web site.
Is this true?
Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,
For a person who wants to minimize non-woodworking chatter, you sure manage to keep this thread going.
That is my one comment. Do NOT reply. Out of courtesy to the people who really want to see the FOG get back to business, do not answer. No answer is necessary. It is just an observation.

Nope. I'm pretty sure that Shane Holland was the project manager. Although, since the Festool site is made using technology I specialize in, I do hope that some day Festool comes to me for some overflow work, but that day has yet to arrive.

Graphex,
Thanks for clarifying this.  I didn't think it made sense, and I thought Shane was the manager on this.  But I wanted to confirm and make sure there was no misunderstanding.

As stated before, this discussion is about the Festool Web site, so any issues concerning access, design, and ease of use are valid.  Dan Clermont started this thread to discuss the new Web site, and everything that has been discussed is on target.

Just because some problems were reported regarding the new site you call this "chatter" and urge people not to answer?  You even go so far as to criticize me for somehow contradicting myself about woodworking versus non-woodworking material on the forum.

But of course, as you say, "It is just an observation."  I'm sure your remarks were perfectly innocent!

Thanks,
Matthew

Good Afternoon,
Here is the response I received from Shane Holland regarding problems with the Festool USA Web site:

You and a few other visitors to our website experienced some problem related to some testing being done for geolocation.  We plan to take over the festool.com domain in the future and I had done some testing to forward visitors which were supposed to be outside of the US to the international site.  I thought this testing had been disabled prior to my leaving the US but I missed some of the code.  There were some problems with that which affected you and others in an unexpected way.  The code has been disabled until further diagnose.
My apologies to anyone affected.
Shane Holland

Thanks,
Matthew

Reminds me of my earlier post, following:

After all of the speculation in this thread, we now understand that Christian "does not know why this is happening".  It seems it would be reasonable to give him and his crew a chance to figure it out.  The weekend has arrived.  There won't be an answer until next week.  Patience is a virtue....

Now that the facts are known, isn't it nice to know there was nothing sinister about the problem, and that it was just an unintentional technical glitch?

I've never heard someone whine like this, is it something you acquired later in life Daviddubya ?

Dear bpeters (or whoever you really are),

How you interpret what I said as whining is way beyond me.  As I have said previously, butt out.  Or better yet, go away.

David,

Sounds like you correctly encouraged folks not to jump to a conclusion.

I'd just ignore bpeters, whoever he or she is. Take a look at the 5 posts made from that account so far. Nothing but sniping. Zero value. Troll

Jim,

So true - I took a look at he posts! That's one of the problems with the internet; people can so easily hide behind that anonymity.

Dave you are right on track.

When I joined this group, it was a place to exchange new ideas and information, a place to ask and answer each other's questions. Now, it seems to be more like one of those TV reality shows; I won't mention which one I'm thinking of..... We need to get back to what made this group a success, and offer more than catty insults. This group is bigger than any one ego.
