Dave,
How about the edgebander?  Any ideas on who makes it and (I Shudder to ask) is it AINA?

I finally found it. It is available in the USA for around $3k. It is a glue pot portable edge bander. Like Johne says you can apply thick unglued PVC edging with it. My wish list keeps getting longer ::).

Back on topic, I finally bought a vacuum pump (no it's not in a systainer) thanks for the help Nickao ;D . I bet a local welding shop could put one of those clamp things together at a bearable cost.

Mike,

Now that you have a vacuum pump, the world of vacuum clamping is wide open to you.  I've had one for years and really hadn't used it except to glue up veneer panels.  But recently I had to do some crown molding jobs by myself and made some clamps to hold the other end in place while I installed it.  Simply hood the jig/clamp in place, press it to the wall, and done.  To release, break the vacuum, and the clamp will fall into your hand.  If you're interested you might want to visit www.joewoodworker.com for ideas and diy parts.

Good luck.

Peter

Peter,
Woo, thats a good one. I was using "Third Hands" for solo crown but the vac clamps won't slide down the wall and bash things when I'm not looking :'(. Nickao recomended some clamp "pucks" that I will get once my credit card cools off. Maybe one could attach the pucks to an articulated 80-20 jig?
Mike

Mike,

I admit that i borrowed the idea from a product called Little Green Suckers.  They have a system that uses a venturi system running off of an air compressor, but i wanted to minimize the noise and wear and tear on my pancake style compressor.  So i spent about $150 and now have enough parts to probably last me years.  Cheaper than a helper too...

I'd like to see a picture of that crown molding clamp.

Joe puts on a humble front but he is very smart in addition to being a nice guy. I bought a bunch of stuff from him and modified one of his vacuum system designs so it would fit into a Sys 4, but I have to take it out to use it  :-[

Hi,

let me add to your confusion by bringing another brand for vacuum hold-down systems to your attention:
Doscornio

It's the Goliath by Samstag-International.
Check out the ForKA 200 (AINA) @ Felder USA that seems to perform a very similar job.

Have a nice day,

Christian

Hi Christian,
Thanks for the links.  Looks like the Felder edgebander is $4,000 :'(.Does that large table/clamp vacuum down to the floor?

If you're referring to the vacuum hold-down systems shown in Michael's message, yes, they "vacuum-clamp down" to the floor/workbench. This applies to both, the floor as well as the benchtop unit.

Hope this helps,

Christian

Oops, I should have just read the replies and been done with it, but nooo I had to watch the video too, and now I find myself wanting one!

How cool is that when this system uses its own vacuum to attach to the bench and still hold work.

Mike, did you receive and/or are you using the Vacuum press yet?

Nickao

Nickao,
No, it is still in transit. I got the one you recommended from Joe Woodworker since the parts I need to glue up are 12' long x 2' wide. Got the big poly bag also. I figure I'll probably need the 4' width of the bag in the future. Next on the list is some clamping stuff ;D

I need a darn 62" bag. Now I have to split the project in half and the installers will have to put it down in two pieces. So yes you will need that 48" eventually. I hope you have as good luck as I have had over the last few years with it. Someday I may make a unit to fit into a systainer, unless Festool  puts their system for sale here.

Let me know how it goes!

Nickao
