Filter bag capacity of CT-SYS / CTL-SYS

Hi!

So I've been using my CT(L)-SYS for quite a while now and I'm very happy with it. Happy as I was the day I bought it and I still think it's worth it's weight in gold.

I know it's size requires to compromise on filter bag capacity and it's officially considered more of a cleaning tool than a vac to use with power tools.

As of lately my CT(L)-SYS was behaving differently, reduced suction and a constantly opening/closing safety/bypass valve.

Upon inspection of the bag that had very mixed contents of shop cleaning, drilling concrete/masonry, sanding and cutting wood I decided to ditch it although it appeared to be half full only and inserted a new one.

Now I was building a Sys-Port over the weekend from 18mm ply. Had to make quite a couple of cuts with my TSC, drilled a lot, sanded it - all of it ended up in the CT(L)-SYS. During the last minutes suction went down and I could hear the valve again.

I decided to inspect it a little more thoroughly this time.

Taking out the bag very carefully - the Area I marked red was really packed, highly compressed and hard sawdust. As you can see, looking into the bag it seems hardly half full.

Now I carefully cut the bag and laid it open. The formerly compressed sawdust is now lose. You can see the pores of the bag are quite clogged.

Now I wanted to know how much it actually is/was. It's approx. 1.4l - so basically and according to specs it should be possible to get another 2l in. Given the noise and reduction of suction I doubt it. Unless one would shake the CT(L)-SYS to "decompress" the accumulation of sawdust in the back portion of the bag and then go on. Is it meant to work this way? Is it perfectly fine considered what I ask of it?

It is more the clothing of the pores that reduces the suction. I had stated in an older post that I like to use the CT SYS with my ETS EC 125 for small drywall touchups and that fine dust will cause the baffle to shout off. I bought the long life bag and use it a lot. I also will vacuum it out quite often if I am doing anything with drywall. Works well in this method.

Not a perfect vac, but I still love it as well six point!!

I don't own any long life bags except the Sys one. Highly recommend it!

Cheers. Bryan.

Kudos on the visual demonstration!  The compression at the sides of the bag occurs on mine as well.  I think of all the vacs, the CT-SYS is the one that benefits most from the long life bag given the oft-reported loss of suction well before full capacity is reached.  I just vacuum mine out with my CT26, and occasionally bang the bag on the wall outside to clear the pores.

I wonder if a cheap paper baffle inside a new bag that changes dust flow though the bag to distribute it differently than what now happens normally, would help with this?.... [scratch chin] [scratch chin] [scratch chin]

Hi!

With the current project going on, and since I use the CTL-SYS more than any other vac/ dust extractor I thought it was time to take a look at how much concrete/masonry dust/debris it can take - although it's not intended/ meant to work with this stuff. I used it and tapped the bag occasionally until the bypass valve would open immediately and suction was heavily reduced.

The answer is it can handle about 1kg of concrete/masonry dust/debris - this is both from drilling small diameters 6 - 8 - 10 - 12mm. And using a 68mm hole saw.

I'm officially impressed!

Love this thing!
