Hello I have just bought my first MFT-3. I'm guessing I will need some bench dogs as useful items.

But not sure which ones to buy? I am based in the UK.

There seems to be a lot of choice, Parf Dogs, Axminster UJK dogs, Benchdogs from benchdogs.co.uk, Veritas.

Some very flat ones would be useful too I think when you need to sand 6 or 9mm ply.

Some slightly taller ones as well as I may sometimes put a 18mm sacrificial top on the MFT avoid too many cut marks over it.

But I think I have to be careful with very tall dogs as they can catch on the motor housing of the TS55 I believe.

I really like UJK products and recommend them. I have the Parf guide System for laying out and making tops with perfect 20mm holes at 96mm spacing as well as their bench and rail dogs. The tolerances are very tight and the result is perfectly square cuts.

I have several dogs from different manufacturers.  They are handy for sure.  To me they have all worked well, but I use the Festool ones and the UJK Parf dogs the most.  The Festool were part of an MFT kit a few years back, not sure if they are still available anywhere or not.

I have both Qwas dogs and the Parf dogs. Both work well. I added the Super Parf dogs recently and really like them. If you buy the Super Parf dogs, also buy the chamfering tool. It lets the dogs nestle into the MFT holes perfectly.

I think Peter Parfitt did a brilliant job designing the dogs and they are very well made.

I have 2 pairs of the small Veritas Parf Dogs, 1 pair of the large Veritas Parf Dogs, and 1 pair of the TSO DoubleGroove Stubby Bench Dogs.

I bought the stubby dogs because I did run into problems with the motor hitting the large Veritas Parf Dogs.

Hi there, I have an array of various dogs.
Lately I have been breaking down sheet material with a big portable bench top I made up with the Parf guide system mk2. I use my TSO GR-16 and GR-16 PE guide rail squares, along with suitable length guide rails.
Then onto the MFT/3, with Parf guide pups to rest the stock against, then Parf Super dogs with rail clips, to hold the rail at 90 degrees. Then cut away.

I still use my angle protractor etc that came with the MFT but, the above method is very quick, especially for cross cutting.

I added a row of dog holes to the edge of my MFT’s at 48mm centres from the existing holes. So when cross cutting, no kerf is cut accross the original dog holes. This was an idea I got from a Peter Parfitt video.

Edit: If you have the extra row of dog holes at the edges of the MFT as above, this allows for the use of taller dogs, up to more or less any height. As being near the edge, the full cut will have been made before the saw motor has any chance of touching the dogs.

I too have been looking at “bench dogs”. In the meantime, I have found that the dogs supplied with the Black & Decker workmate work pretty well. The are secure in the holes, are resin, strong, will not damage your sharp blades.
I would like something shorter and a stop with two dogs for planing, but today these are working.

I have ujk bench dogs And parf super dogs, and benchdogs from benchdogs.co.uk and love them. Id also would say that TSO makes some great benchdogs but haven’t tried them yet.
