Just wanted to say...Hi

My name is Michael and I live in Greece. I'm not a professional, just a DIYer. I've just purchased my first Festool - a RO 90 DX - maybe a bit OTT for a hobbyist DIYer, I don't know, but when I purchase something I always try to aim for high quality. I am not rich, so it's price for me is high. Nevertheless, after reading up (some of it on this forum) between the DTS 400 and the rotex I felt the RO was worth it.

I am renovating the house I live in which was built in 1965. I needed a sander to tackle indoor door frames covered with paint that probably contains lead. After removing the most part with a heat gun (at low setting and mask for protection) I wanted to remove the remaining paint spots from details and sand to an even finish.

The house has a lot of wood - shutters, railings, fencing all  in need of maintenance and we have a few old items of furniture for renewing so just for that the tool is worth it I think.

wish me luck

[welcome] to FOG it will a great place and source of Info for you.
I am wondering if you are using a dust collector along with the RO 90 as this will help in keeping all you sanding contained, especially if their is lead based paint you are dealing with.
The Festool Vac's are HEPA Certified and will prevent the issue of sanding dust traveling throughout the work area

Work Safe

[size=14pt]Welcome to the FOG Michelangelo.

What part of Greece do you live in?
I have been there  twice: great trip on each occasion.

As Sal has said, all Festool sanders (and your health!) will greatly benefit from attachment to a variable dust extractor, preferably Festool. If finances are limited look at a Mini or Midi extractor.

Hi Michelangelo, welcome to the forum. No such thing as OTT for a hobbyist, if you're willing to spend the money you can enjoy the good things in life just like anybody else.

I bet the fellow from the old days would have loved a RO90 when working on the Sistine chapel.  [big grin]

Hi Michelangelo! Welcome! Also I am renovating my upstairs bedroom with the RO90 as I have old pine knotty board and the footprint of the RO is sweet. Your going to love this tool, it is one of my favorites. If you have the dust collector you will be AMAZED at the fact that there is next to nothing in the dust category!

Yes sorry, I didn't mention dust extraction - I already have a class H extractor from another manufacturer which fits. I got it together with a renovation machine to tackle the flaking paint on the walls.

I live in Markopoulo which is just outside Athens close to the new Airport. It is also close to the sea and a pine forest. It has a bit of everything!

I've seen that written a lot, and also about the DTS 400. As i'm a hobbyist I only really wanted one sander and from what I read from the pro's these are the sanders they use the most.

As others have said, [welcome] to the FOG!

I think the RO90 if a GREAT purchase, and I think you'll get a lot of use out of it. The only downside is that Festool sanders can't stand to be alone, so you'll soon be purchasing another. I recommend either the RO150 or the ETS150/3 as your next sander.

And don't forget to post your projects - we LOVE pictures!

You went it did it, you opened the door to your bank account now cash is going to disappear and cool boxes with tools in them will magically appear in the mail

You'll love the RO90 great sander

Welcome!
Greece is such a beautiful country, I've been lucky enough to travel to 3 of the islands and Athens and it was just amazing!!
I also agree you made a wise first choice on your sander.. the ro90 was my first as well, now I have 6 so watch out for that!!  I would make sure you have variable suction on your dust extractor or some way to reduce your suction, the sander will run much smoother

Yes I've seen something about this in a video, my dust extractor has variable suction, just have to practice to get the hang of it. The video I saw only referred to horizontal standard sanding. My present project involves vertical and upside down which is probably more tricky?? If anyone has any tips for this I'd like to hear them

I'm thinking the ro90 is more than enough for me! maybe just add some accessories for polishing etc.

You haven't had it long enough yet  :)

With a RO you should be able to get away with that for a while though if you need to.
