FOGTAINER UPDATE - Lovely Green Light

Thank you for the kind words and also for the kind  [poke] [poke] (plural).

I have been concerned about the possible large success of this project ever since Tom brought up that point earlier in this thread.  I had the prototype shipped to Festool so that I could get comments, make changes, and get the ball rolling while I was there for the week of training classes.  Somethings are easier a more fun to do in person.

Although I gave Shane permission to open the box prior to my arrival, he waited so that it could be my show.  Unfortunately, flight cancellations and delays prevented Mr. C from seeing it last week, so a little more patience is required.  I do not expect any issues - but there are a few changes that I would like to see happen to the existing prototype.  One only came to my mind while sitting in the classroom and looking out the door.

If you look at the better quality picture below, previously used for a sneak peak I plan on changing the following items:

1.  The FOG logo - designed and provided in digital form by Shane [thumbs up] - is currently the correct Festool logo green.  I want to change it to better match the latches which are a brighter color.  The poster on the hallway wall in Lebanon convinced me of that.  Every time I looked up, the green speed selector switch on the Rotex grabbed my attention versus the Festool logo.

2.  The prototype's printing has some minor voids caused by the texture of the systainer.  The logo on the prototype was printed twice.  No matter what color is used, the printing will be done either three or four times.  That will also enhance the color somewhat - it is tough to overcome the dark blue background.

3.  The logo will be moved down slightly to get it away from the dimple just above the "O".

That's all the changes I would like to see, and all of these can be accomplished without any additional project costs.

I have been getting praise for this project, and although it does make me smile, many have been involved and should be recognized and I think that it is more appropriate that some others get recognition - because this would not be happening without their involvement:

Jonathan (UK) and Wayne (South Africa) - the designers and the renderers of the Fogtainer.  Jonathan has also offered to aid with distribution in the U.K. if it is feasible.
Shane (Festool) - the logo designer and provider, my advisor, a great guy, and my friend who listened when my frustrations elevated.
Christian (Festool, Tooltechnics Systems) - the push to make this happen, the opener of doors, the grantor of permissions - also a great guy
Franck (Tanos US) - the guy who has had to deal with my long emails and phone calls, the deal maker, the roadblock remover
Frank Shallow (my systainers.com) - a supporter, a supplier, a true fan of the FOG
Dan Claremont and Bob Marino - supporters, advisors, always ready to help
The class attendees this past week at Lebanon - Thanks for your input, advice, and also for not sharing information early.  What a great bunch of guys.
and finally, thanks to the fellow Foggers!  If you didn't embrace and support this project from the beginning, it would have only been some great pictures and renderings from some extremely talented guys.

Next week I will be starting a separate thread just devoted to the ordering of Fogtainers so that it helps keep things neat.

Peter

Peter THANKS AGAIN for all your hard work. Can you give us some info on decisions from previous polls so we can plan ahead and be ready for ordering. Specifically what payment options did you decide you would take? Secondly will you announce pricing prior to your ordering announcement? I'm another one that my quantities have changed grown since seeing the early prototypes. They will look awesome in the sysport I built for the shop that I was waiting to post until it was "complete" with blue systainers.  :)

Tim,

Payment options will be Paypal, cash, USPS money order.

Unless something comes out of the blue between now and next week when I make the official announcement, the cost to you guys will be within a couple of dollars US of the prices for a stock systainer here in the US.  I anticipate that the most a US member will pay before shipping will be:

Sys 1 - 60 USD
Sys 2 - 65 USD
Sys 3 - 71 USD
Sys 4 - 76 USD

In the thread next week everything will be detailed out.

I hope that this helps.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Will there be sys5 avaliable?

Regards John

John,

That is the really neat thing about this project.  Originally I had hoped to be able to offer the sys 5 but even though it was included in the polls, etc., it turned out that it is not available here in the US.  So, now that I am buying European stock and importing them, I will have to check if the sys 5 is available in the dark blue color in Europe as a standard item.  If so, I will add it to the list.

Peter

Peter,
Great work as always!  You mention that the logo needs to be a lighter shade of green; have you thought about using a white ink for the base so the dark blue doesn't have to suck all the color out of the green?  Just a thought...

Nice one Peter.

I have just ordered the special offer of 5 assorted systainers & rollboard that is still on offer here until the end of July.  I will still have a need for the "SPECIAL" ones though  [big grin]

Great work, Woodguy.

Awesome job Peter. For those of us who have dealt with Corporations, that fact that you have been able to overcome the roadblocks is truly impressive. Ever thought about going into politics? [big grin] I agree that moving the logo down a couple MM from the dimple will look better.
Thanks, so much for all the hard work. I'm thinking there should be some sort of prize here for Peter? (beside the satisfaction of a job well done)

As we have learned from previous threads Peter likes food. I assume it's OK for someone else to cook once in awhile. Furthermore his wife is beating her head on the wall as we speak. So if everyone who makes a purchase would add a dollar to their Pay pal they could enjoy a nice evening on the town for dinner and a movie as a simple THANKS from everyone benefiting from the project. THANKS AGAIN PETER. [thumbs up]

Politics - NO WAY!

Everyone has been great to deal with.  An example - About ten days ago, as I was getting ready to go to Indy, I talked with Franck and he asked me how I was going to handle customs on the incoming material.  I was floored.  I had not anticipated this at all.  Dumb me.  I told Franck I knew nothing about customs - I am just a carpenter after all.  He said that he would check into that for me.  I checked into it also.  Customs charges, custom brokers, customs bonds, freight forwarders, product codes for imported goods.  What a quagmire of regulations.  Luckily for me he let me know last week that based on our situation be had convinced Tanos Germany to handle all of that for me.  He additionally came up with a solution for the latches so that I didn't end up with a whole bunch of blue latches once the green ones were installed.  I didn't want everyone to have to pay for extra latches.

I have been blessed to have had the support and help of great people.  That is why I posted a thanks to all those others.

Prize - no.  Well, speaking of prizes, Fogtainer 1 might be available as a prize for a suitable contest!  I see another thread to be started.

I am have already started on two new projects.  If they succeed, they will dwarf this one.  Granted,  the bigger they get, the longer they take.  Stay tuned.

He may be in the running to take the "ROCKSTAR" title from Brice  [not worthy]

I had the pleasure of meeting Peter at the Festool cabinet class.  He certainly deserves that title.

I spoke to Peter about his projects and I'm going to let the cat out of the bag.  He's is going to buy a Kapex or TS55 and MFT/3 for all the members of the FOG.  The custom Systainer project is very cool, but free tools are totally awesome! Thanks Peter. [wink]  Before anyone starts planning on what they're going to do with their new Kapex or TS/MFT, I'm just kidding but I'm sure we'll going love whatever it is he comes up with.

Last week was really special for me.

I had the pleasure of meeting Brice for the first time last week at a class and spent additional time with Brice and several others.  There is no comparison.  His knowledge of the Festool system and its utilization is unreal.  You may have seen a video of his idea for using the parallel guides with the LR 32 system, but in person it is more awesome.  The questions he answered over the two days - wow.  Add to that the fact that he is a great guy, and...

Brice is someone that everyone should get a chance a meet!

Peter

I guess there is a posting delay on my end.  I have been trying to cook my first meal since Friday night and starting posts and not finishing them before someone else posts, thus they seem out out of sync with the on going conversation.

A very nice member who attended the classes heard the stories about my assistant and his efforts to make my trip possible and hold down the fort while I was gone.  That person heard me ask if I could swap out my t-shirt for a larger shirt for my helper.  Any guesses who donated his shirt for my assistant also?

That is why so many people love this place!

Peter

Sorry off topic, but as i said a while ago i would pay good money for some dark blue FOG t shirts  [big grin]

Woodguy.
