To add to your wonderfull stats:

The original anonymous poll showed an interest in 256 fogtainers.  That is why ending the official ordering period at 257 was so cool to me.

The next poll that put names with sizes showed an interest in 146.

Logic would have it that when have to associate spending money that number would have decreased.  But looked what happened.  The total purchase amount exceeded the original interest poll.

If you were to take this to a statistician, they would tell you that this is unheard of.

Now your typing like me. I think you meant to type 275. If not then your previous post is wrong? So now i'am wondering is it 275 or 257? But then are you refering to the official end of the sale 8/15 mid-night  or the un-official end some time Monday AM???? At this point who cares you sold 275! [eek]

We were both correct.  At midnight the total was 257.  Additional orders came in after midnight mainly from the the western states, Hawaii, and the Pacific Northwest.  The ending total was 275.

Peter,

Thanks for all the hard work making this happen. It has been very exciting to watch the project go from a loose idea to a successful reality. I am going to make up a little label for each fogtainer that I ordered that says "1 of 275. August 2010."

Wowowow!!

Just 'cuz I'm a goofball analyst..

That's 12 Fogtainers per day, on average in the sales window (23 days).
That's 1 Fogtainer every two hours for 23 days.
That's $837 per day  (Using an average price of $70 each Fogtainer)
A total of over $19,000 sold.    (I can see why PayPal alarms started going off!)
Using the average height of the Systainers (assuming equal sales), that stack is over 2100 ft tall; or 0.4 miles.  Or 680 meters.
Averaging weight, that's 1106 lbs or 502 kg.  (over half a ton!)   Peter, your living room is going to sink into the sand!

That is truly outstanding and amazing to have seen this whole project conceive, grow, work through the paces, and now this.  Wowow!    [eek]

Wood junkie great stats.....  how about the volume?

Volume?  4 europallets
Height based on actual sold  158 feet 8 inches
imagine 1497 gallons of milk or 5666 liters of milk

actual sold   70 sys1     102  sys2     62 sys3    43 sys4

quantity per pallet   sys1 128    sys2 88   sys3 64  sys4 40

Peter's living room decorating style - Modern box
Main color - dark blue
Accent color - Festool Green
Peter's favorite game - hide and seek
Worst possible conversation:    Peter:  " Have you seen my keys?"  Answer: " Last time I saw them was when you were stacking those boxes.  By the way have you seen the dog?"  Peter: "Last time was when I was stacking those boxes."

This experience:  Priceless

I'm rather amazed that so many Sys1 were ordered. I find the Sys1 fairly useless. Of course we all have are different uses and work styles. The other order numbers are what I thought they would be. Sys2 the most popular then down the line.
Peter I think in years to come you will probably come to realize many times over the experiences and value this effort has taught you. You will probably be reaping the business benefits for many years. It's these kind of out of the box activities that can teach us valuable lessons that we normally wouldn't get.
A number of years ago, a buddy was on the board of a non-profit. He wanted their national convention to come to Chicago. Since he was on the board he couldn't do any work to make it happen. He decided to talk me into putting together a bid package to bring their convention to here. Outside of staying in hotels I knew nothing about the hotel or convention industry. Long story much shorter, I spent the next 2 1/2 years putting together a bid package, having big shot meetings and beating out 7 other cities who were competing for the convention. I always kept a suit in the back of my truck so I could go downtown to a meeting on a moments notice. Really screwed up getting construction jobs done. My package won the bid to bring a 15,000 people convention to the City and provide a lot of jobs for a week. At the time, I was just thrilled to be getting all the Comps from properties. Today I'm still reaping the benefits of the lessons I learned on the adventure. He later told me he asked me because he knew I had the tenacity to pull it off. I'm glad he knew it because I sure didn't.  [big grin]

[thumbs up] So Mr. Holtzhacker, you are obviously the man to organize the first ever FOG convention in Chicago. [big grin]

I agree.  I think the systainers 1 are useless well for me they are like you said.

What I think another reason why some people have bought a systainer 1 is maybe because its the cheapest one so........

1. They bought systainer 1 to support peter and fog

2. They bought systainer 1 just so they can say I own a Fogtainer.

Well thats the 2 reasons I was going to just buy the systainer 1  because I live in the UK its the shipping which makes it expensive BUT I thought well I can do better and decided not to bother with the systainer 1 (also dont think ill use it) and order 4 larger fogtainers just not worked out what the total cost is going to be really includin posting :(

Thats my support!

Well, I am one who finds lots of uses for systainer 1s.  For example:

[attachimg=#1]

I decided to buy FOGtainers for the abrasive assortments.  I have a couple now and had planned on buying the Systainers+inserts for the others I could use instead of having all that StickFix sticking to itself in my drawer.  So, some of those are Sys1s; I'll get the inserts later.  The one Sys1 currently holding abrasive will get swapped out for the FOGtainer, but I plan on using that Sys1 for the OF1400 accessories that sadly don't fit correctly in the OF1400 systainer.

But otherwise, I kinda agree that for tool stuff, Sys1s don't hold much.

Just a note...

For those who got the SYS 1, you can buy the compartments, like the ones shown in Frank's post, that come in the SYS 1 Box.  I know the photos aren't accurate for the red and green boxes on our website, but here's a link to all of them.

Note that they come in the following quantities:

Green - 2 pieces
Blue - 3 pieces
Yellow - 6 pieces
Red - 12 pieces

Just made a nice sale and can get one, so if someone wants to give one up...  :)

While I am waiting for payments to come in, if you want to order send me a PM.  This could end at any time - so don't hesitate.

My reasoning, for every additional one that gets added, the FOG can do more prizes for contests.

We are at 281 right now.

To convert an empty Systainer-1 to a Systainer-1 Box, you will also want to order the lid insert.  This lid insert will prevent the contents of the boxes from getting mixed up when the Systainer is closed.  The EKAT page lists part #447337 - Liner SYS BOX-EL, but I'm not sure that this is the correct part -- part # 447338 is the correct part and can be found at  MySystainer: Tanos Lid Insert (EPP).

I got a fogsys 1 because I don't have a sys 1. I thought it would be useful to carry drawings, sketches, pencils, rulers etc. to and from my office to the workshop. I reckon I could get my 13" laptop in there as well.

Richard.

I had the chance to see and hold the prototype while at Festool HQ for a training class this week. Now I'm even more excited about them; it's going to be a long wait until November! A big thank you to Peter and everyone involved for all of your hard work making this happen!

- Mike
