Getting ready for a little Festool-Fan..

So, the next item of furniture is approaching. :)

This time, it is another IKEA-Hack, albeit a very loose one. ;)
I had a piece of IKEA birch worktop left over.  Cut into a bunch of strips with some added birch ply, tadaa...

Originally we planned to use a bed from a friend, but it turned out to not fit out mattress height.
And after looking at the thing, it turned out that some scraps from my pile would allow me to build a better version, tailored to the use cases.

Today was the first check to see, If the heights match up. :)
More tomorrow...

Yesterday was a short day, since there was some well appreciated leisure time in the afternoon.

But nevertheless I managed to prepare the mattress carrier/slatted frame.

Thanks to the Domino this went smooth and quicker than routing. :)

That add-on bed looks great, if you didn't say so, no one would have guessed its made from scraps.

Great work!

Kind regards,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver!

It is hard to find good quality and functional stuff, apparently.

So I took some time to design the add-on bed to be able to easily attach to the bed, but also have a „slide up“ fence that does permanently stay on the bed but does not interfere with normal operation.

Out of convenience, all the „channels“ that guide 6mm IKEA metal pins (from those basement storage systems;) ) were routed with the Domino. Much quicker than setting up the MFS...

I like how it turned out so far.
Will do some glory shots, as soon as I am done sanding/oiling.

:)

Hey grobkuschelig,

I am not sure where you are posting from, but if you are based in Europe, have a look at Festool item number 202307.

Nice try... [emoji12]
Festool item number 202307 has been purchased a considerable time ago.
You could say, the first step of preparation. [emoji41][emoji51]

Haha, nice one - I’m sure the mother to be is going to be thrilled with your newborn carrying “Festool” up front  [big grin]

Really like your work with the adaptive bed and bed liner. There’s really no such product apart from “Stokke” and their “Sleepi” as I have seen.
- Make a template and sell maybe?  [wink]

[member=63474]grobkuschelig[/member] I'm trying to upgrade my Ikea Hemnes glides too. Exactly which ones did you use? Did you require any modifications to the dresser besides screw holes in order to use these?

I just tried a heavy duty Richelieu brand 18 inch full extension option from Lowes, and the heavy duty makes it too thick. Technically it works, but makes the drawer too snug. I could router a channel to give that hardware more clearance, but this then becomes a bigger unnecessary project. Like you, my use case is for a newborn, but mine is born now and I have no sleep for bigger projects! I just want a glide that fits. I'll drill holes. But no reworking the drawers.

[mention]EchoNiner [/mention] unfortunately I can neither locate the old link or order description. But what I used were the cheapest ball bearing drawer slides I could find that had both: full-extension & soft-close.

I also double checked that the thickness or roughly in line with the IKEA Solution (~ 1/2“).

I bought these either of of eBay or Amazon.

Nothing to modify besides screwing them to the drawers.

Best of luck finding something! :)

That first garage pic hurt my brain  [scared] but you seem to have recovered  [big grin]

Congratulations on the new addition. I feel sorry for your sleep pattern already

Thank you!

Haha. Meanwhile, I have switched to just generate Chaos by myself.
Thanks for the support. Sleep pattern is still disrupted but I heard it might change back in 18-20years, when they leave the house. [emoji23]
