I just used these to attach a fireplace mantle and they are just one of those things that you should have in your tool box. Leave the sheetrock screws in the walls where they belong.

Honestly you can sneak these in such tight spots to get that no fastener look. They sell them at HD but they also sell a deck version that looks similar.

You said it!  ALL of the grk screws are fantastic...i with their cabinet mounting screws were #10 and not #8, but i use em in hardwoods all the time without the need of a pilot.  Such a time saver [big grin]

I agree - GRK make the best screws I have found. I used to have to mail order them but now they are available from HD it's even better. The TORX head makes cam out a thing of the past too.

I first started using them about 10 years ago, there long trim screws make a great way to install extension jambs  and sills in those tough remodeling cases. I like the larger head because of it's ability to draw the work in tightly. I just picked up the 1/8" countersink that SNAPPY makes, really cleans up the entry hole and makes a good addition to the trim screws. I always keep a box with my kit. B

I  like those trim head GRKs too. You can definitely use them in  small hidden spots like the edges of pieces in addition to just attaching trim.  I recently angled some through the edges of 3/4" thick panel trim boards. I did predrill for those because of the small amount of supporting material and by predrilling the screw was guided in at the correct angle. Made it so I zero holes to fill on those pieces.  Very handy.

I love all of their offerings and I despise when I have to use a regular phillips for anything!  I did see the trim screws used in a not so fashionable statement on bamboo flooring once...the installer used the screws along the perimeter where you would normally face nail and even along some of the thresholds where the floor changed directions!  Gold screws in dark bamboo...and not predrilled to everyone of them mushroomed.  Anyone every seen anything like that?!
