Concrete - 1

FS1900/2 -O

Stupid screw gave way, guide rails flying everywhere.  I got a good ding in one end of my longest, most expensive guide rail.  Lovely.  I wanted to cry. :-\

Gary,

This is a perfectly valid excuse reason to buy a new rail.  First cut a little off the dinged 1900 to make it a custom length. Then go buy a new 1900.  ;)

by that logic, I would also need another blade for my TS55 (the aluminum cutting one).  I like your thinking...

I know this may sound silly but with the money we all have invested in our tools is there some insurance cover for damage of the tools that could be claimed against say in the same way that certain appliances in the house which get damaged can be claimed for.  I know that if I dropped any tool over say $500 or so I wouldn't mind paying an excess of a $100 to claim it on insurance. Does anyone know if policies exist either in Aus or the US or eleswhere for that matter?

You can insure anything for almost any event, anywhere in the world. Talk to RACV.

Yup, but you have to balance premiums + deductables.  I'm strictly guessing that portable power tools would be expensive to insure due to theft and hard use.

I insure my power tools and construction equipment through State Farm Insurance. I pay roughly $18 a month to insure approximately $14,000 or equipment with a $100 deductable. I do keep a detailed inventory of all of my equipment, including serial numbers on all power tools. It was a pain in the.... neck..... to do the initial inventory, but now it's a piece of cake, and I sleep a little better at night knowing that if I get cleaned-out I'm just $100 away from a truckload of shiny new tools.I'm not sure if I could claim accidental damage though, something to check into.....

Nah - The Kapex, with an aluminium cutting blade, would be a far better option for cutting a guide rail down (notice the second i in 'aluminium'....).

Having lit the blue touch paper, he stood back to watch the fireworks...... ;D

The Kapex won't cut aluminum (note the lack of second I) ;D ;D ;D

Item number 494607 - "Aluminium saw blade, HW 260x2, 4x30 TF68"

Straight from the Festool UK price list. Or maybe its NAINA?  :P ;D

I was just jo-keeeng. Kapex is NAINA=will not cut aluminum (that's yank spelling?) ;D = it will cut aluminium

But when these blokes down here give me pains I love to say, "' Loo-ni-num". Drives them batshit.

Shouldn't that be "...drives the loon-ni"?  8)

Strewth Eli, you are not wrong there my friend. I work in oil and gas construction and boss is from Housten, Aluminium is the least of the words that drive me crazy so I make sure I use as much Aussie slang as I can, speak as fast as possible and mumble all the time which I am sure drives him mental too!

You gotta remember Texese is another language if you live in the US. ;D

That's right, another country too I understand well at least long enough a different country for them to lock into history as such. Bless 'em!

Thanks pardner !

Everybody does that. It was only a few years ago that Georgia was asked to remove the dixie from the state capitol.

As a native Texan, I feel the need to jump in here.  Eli, I'm not sure if every state does fly their flags at the same height as the national flag.  Every display I've ever seen (except for Texas) has the state flag lower than the national flag.  Also, as part of the annexation charter that Texas signed, they have the right to separate into 5 several smaller states.  That would increase voting power in the senate, but destroy the representation of the south and western parts of the state.  From Texas' Terms of Annexation

"Third. New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas, and having sufficient population, may hereafter' by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution. And such States as may be formed out of that portion of said Territory lung South of thirty six degrees thirty minutes North latitude, commonly known as the Missouri compromise line, shall be admitted into the Union' with or without Slavery' as the people of each State asking admission may desire. And in such State or States as shall be formed out of said Territory, North of said Missouri Compromise line, slavery or involuntary servitude (except for crime) shall be prohibited."

I went to the US Air Force Academy which by definition includes people from all 50 states.  I couldn't believe how many people still think most Texans live on ranches.  Metro-Houston has ~6 million people.  According to the 2005 Census Results Texas has 6 of the top 21 most populated cities.

4 - Houston
7 - San Antonio
9 - Dallas
16 - Austin
19 - Fort Worth
21 - El Paso

All more populous than Seattle and Boston.  In land area, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth are both significantly larger than Rhode Island.

Ok, I'll get off my horse and go back to woodworking.  Nowhere else that I've lived (and I've lived a lot of places) has the same kind of state identity and pride as Texas.  It's too damn hot for me there, but I'm glad to be from there.  Much better than, say, Delaware (no offense to the Delawarans).

I was born in Texas, lived there intil I moved to Colorado 3 years ago.  I love Texas, but I'm pissed it took me so long to get up here :D
