What the?  I was flipping through my Hilti catalogue last week and came across a guide rail for their saws.  Again, what the?  Well today I had to pick up some fasteners so there I was in a Hilti store.  So just in passing I asked about their rail and it just so happened that they had mis-ordered something and ended up with a rail.  I believe they call it a wng 1400.  My ts 75 mounts directly to it and all other clearances line up.  Their rail has a large notch at the start of the rail just where you would set your base to start the plunge.  The rail has the same three pads on the bottom as chip guard and no slip.  Hilti deleted the outside clamping track and added an integrated cut out handle.  Hilti has lent me the rail to kick around so I'll give the full shake down if anybody is interested.  C Hughes

Hi,

If you locate an online catalog for Hilti , Maffel, and probably a couple more European manufacturers you will find quite a few similar guide rails. Some pretty neat specialised ones too. And Makita  plus DW are getting into the game.
How abut some pics of the rail and its particulars  in use ?

Seth

I saw that post today and as odd timing would have it my shop neighbor showed me the catalogue.  I'll try to post pictures of the rail tomorrow but I'm special ed when it comes to uploading.  Wish me luck.

What's the cost and warranty, do we know?  A variety of sizes available too I guess?  Accessories go with this too I'm sure.

Details man, we need details!  ;D

Steve

OK, I did a quick phone call to Hilti.  I was told the rail was $98.66 for the WGS 1400.  (WGS 1400-2 Guide Rail: Item No.: 00338155).  Thats nearly $10.00 more than the Festool 1400.  I couldn't find any accessories available, but that doesn't mean the are none.

Steve

Hilti offers a 1400mm and a 3000mm.  The 3000 is about 160.00.  I believe both units come with a rail stop.  Not much if you ask me.  I have to replace my 8' rail as I was crashed into about a month ago and I'm considering the hilti rail as a replacement.  Hilti, to my knowledge, does not have a plunge saw or router so they have no need for the accessories that we would need.  But our equipment fits on their rails.  Chris

So, if Hilti don't make anything to go on the rails, whydo they make the rails?  ???

Hi,

Hilti has a circular saw for the rail, its just not a plunge saw.

Is it compatible with TS-55/75?

Thanks,
Victor

and a cordless 36v.  But their saws do not run against the chip guard.  Don't ask me why, makes no sense.   Victor, my ts 75 fits the rail nicely.  I'm still testing the rail for short comings.

Thanks Chris,

Does Hilti sale 3m rail in the US? I found only short rail online

Also please note that Makita has a new plunge circular saw that runs on the same track as Festool. The Makita tracks are cheap, the 3 meter track was around 170-180 euros! The normal price for Festool 3m track here in Finland was 450 euros.

Here is an article from JLCOnline on Hilti's circular saw where they mention the interchangeability of their guiderail and Fesools.

"The Hilti would not be my first choice for cabinetmaking. For that I would want Festool's saw, because it's quieter and runs more smoothly. But if there were some reason I needed to use the same saw for everything, I'd consider buying the Hilti. "

Hi Guys

I just want to clear the air a bit here
I have 2 Hilti saws with guide rails and a TS 55 with guide rails and they are not compatible with each other.
The Hilti saws are semi plunge cut saws and they do cut against the rubber on the hilti rails.
Yes it is true you will find a lot of European manufactures who have guide rails but Festool invented them and
has the largest range of sizes and accessories.

You may also not be aware that a lot of European ( particularly German ) manufactures make tools for each other,
for eg. 7 of the Hilti tools are made by Bosch, the Festool OF 2000 ( old model ) was made by Mafell and the small Mafell router is made by Festool
also all the Festool clamps are made by Bessey

Incidentally I am told the new Dewalt rail are the same as the Festools

Hi,

    Good info.  Thanks.

I don't know if the DW rail is compatible with the TS55/75 saws or not, but in pictures the rail itself seems quite a bit differeent. It has the saw rib down the center and can be used to cut on either side. See this thread with a link to the DeWalt stuff http://festoolownersgroup.com/index.php?topic=2184.0
