When I found out Darcy (Warner Remodeling) was going to be in my backyard picking up yet another Nimitz Class jointer I invited him in to visit me at work if it was convenient. It turned out he was picking the equipment up only a mile from our shop so In spite of some really nasty weather Darcy took me up on the offer and stopped by to visit. After exchanging opinions about our mutual affection for the role jointers play in serious woodworking we had a great visit. I showed him around my place of work and was very impressed with how he picked up on the challenges and nuances of what we do (machining of differential carrier mountings for commercial trucks).
The internet is a funny thing. We make acquaintances in cyberspace and generally don't get the opportunity to meet face to face. What a shame that can be. There is no doubt Darcy is the kind of guy I would love to have living next door. What a hoot that would be. I am sure I am twice his age and we don't agree about SawStop but fifteen minutes with him and I felt like we were old friends.
The takeaway for me? Whenever any of you get the chance to connect with a fellow FOG member jump on it. I head Darcy's way on business now and then and will surely make it a point to visit him. Not only is he a genuinely nice and interesting guy, he's got all those interesting machines! [thumbs up]
