Simple.. well was for mine, thickness a piece of wood, measure it with a micrometer/calipers, take the hand wheel off and turn it to get the same reading (the digital dial is weighted by gravity so just get a piece of pipe of dowel and spin the wheel till you get the same reading as the callipers, then put the wheel back on the thicknesser
I noticed the dial would not move when it was rotated. There is a nut on the back of the dial and apparently too tight I loosened it some with pliers and it works like a champ. You would think after paying $6000 for a machine there would be some instructions for the setup and calibration. I love my hammer machines though.
