Hand Tool Cabinet Build

Jim...
First time I've seen this post, the cabinet is great but I'm even more impressed with the time spent on the tool holders. The spoke shave rack and the awl rack jump out at me. The tool holders probably took longer than making the box. [eek] Nice job!

Kirk,

I have to agree with Neilc, it's the best fret saw I ever used. Tightens up very nicely.

Anyone upgraded to an Elkhead handle? ... that'd really disturb [member=60576]Lemwise[/member] [big grin] I'd like the idea of a handle thats a little fatter at the base for grip and control - with my big fat paws.

I have the Elkhead handle.  Beautiful and comfortable addition.  I think I went with the medium size.

Thanks, Cheese - but I'm sure Lemwise is just having some fun with his American friends...

I got a good laugh out of it!

Where do you plug the cords in at?

It would be funny with a Plugit.

It is a nice looking chest, both outside and in.
That is a lot of $ in planes.

Wow [member=29138]Steve-Rice[/member]

That is impressive

We don't have cabinets like that in the uk. We are too busy building sys ports for all our NAINA lol

Joking aside that's a nice cabinet and contents

[member=60576]Lemwise[/member] doesn't even have any chisels .. just uses a really sharp shovel [wink]

I have to elaborate why I find this cabinet a marvel.  The stuff I have made is big with a fraction of the joints found in Jim’s cabinet.  The only small thing I made was a craftsman lamp (thread someplace) and it was far far from clean.

There are like a jillion joints with cross dividers here.  They are all square and true.  There are also a whole bunch of odd shaped small pieces of matching sizes.  Small pieces are not easy at all and end grain makes them even more difficult to come out clean.  I cringe when I have to get rid of router burn on end grain.

This piece is the product of a true craftsman.

Much appreciated,

I was just trolling a bit  ;D

Nice cabinet , Jim.

I sort of like the slightly modern clean take combined with the "old" tools look.

Why don't you post when, on the off chance, you have something pertinent to add to the thread.  Or start a joke thread since you havent built anything

Please let's us not take this build thread down a rabbit hole and rather continue to focus on the project originally posted.

Peter

I'm ashamed to say it but I just now finished the project in this old thread today.  I posted some finished pictures in the 3rd post at the top.  [embarassed]

Jim, it's beautiful!  Very, very nice.  You should be proud of it.  That's a family heirloom.

Great work - sounds like my kind of schedule.
