Has anyone attached a UG extension directly to an MFT/3?

Hey everyone,

Has anyone tried and been successful at attaching a UG extension to an MFT/3 V-groove?  I don't have an extension, but from YouTube videos and 3D models, it seems conceivable that the UG extension could clamp onto the MFT/3 rail.  This would make for a pretty cool router platform for baseboards, etc.  See image below.

I use these all the time and it's one of my favorite uses of "the system". I use the UG extensions on my Kapex, MFT, and CMS. The leveling knob for the leg is great. Kapex use is obvious. I've used it to support infeed on the CMS for long stock routing operations. The flag stops are great for stopped dados and work with the CMS and MFT fences, as well. On the MFT, I use the UG extension on the offcut side to support 8' panels while I crosscut them to size.

The only caveat is tightening the catch on the underside of the UG extension when hooking into the MFT. Clearance is a little tight for the knob.

I wish I could add V-grooves to my jointer, planer, and drill press so I could use them there, too.

Yeah I hear you.  I've seen the MFT/3 extruded aluminum rails for sail on European web sites, but it's not exactly cheap.  But you could buy some and cut it/fit it to other tools.

I think festool will attach to 80/20 aslo.  BTW festool is a "system" approach so things work together.  I have definitely used my UG wings on my MFT in many arrangements

Yes, I have used them to support both long edges of postformed worktops to cut joints and on the CMS for infeed/outfeed tables when routing or in tablesaw mode.

Unfortunatly the angle I HAD to use was 102* so, it didn't work out perfect....

I shaped the thumb bolts in the retainer bracket to clear to square groove on the MFT. Makes it easier to thigh the assembly.

Would it be possible to measure the thickness of the ka-ug ? From the discussion I get the impression that it's level with the mft3 surface.

I assume you are asking about the wings.

When the UG wings are installed on MFT or CMS the top surfaces are on plane.

Yep, the thickness of the wing was what I had in mind. I'm thinking one could order the connector piece then fabricate some 'wings' of wood. Knowing the thickness ahead of time would be beneficial.
