I'm traveling to Heidelberg, Germany for a little over a week in May.  Would any have any suggestions of where to go check out Festool offerings in that area?  Any other suggestions would be welcome as I'll have about 3 days on my own.

Thanks.

Karl

Be aware that the power tools that work in Germany won't work in US.  They are DC in Germany and AC here.  My wife's nephew tld me he could get Festoys for me as he lives fairly close to the factory.  I could not take advantage.  Bummer. [unsure]

Thanks for the heads up.  I was thinking of picking some other trinkets.  I assumed the power tools wouldn't work.  Pricing on things like router bits seem to be fairly attractive.

A lot of things will be relatively "attractive" in terms of price with the Euro being about equal with the USD. I have had good liking finding Festool stuff that is not sold in the US. There are not quite as many of those now that they are importing just about everything. One item that I did get that I use regularly is a blade bag with separators that holds TS75 and TS55 blades.

DC or 220 AC ?

230V AC, 50 Hz. It was 220V for long time but it's slowly increased to 230V. Could consider a transformer, but to be more safe than sorry stick with the US models.

For a complete list:

Tools would have different motors and electrical wires/plugs.

I would still visit a dealer, even if you couldn't bring an electrical tool back. Always good to browse.

Do see if you can check out the Heidelberg Castle, should be quite an attraction. If bored head to Stuttgart and check out the Porsche Museum. Probably too late for a factory tour swith wince they tend to book in advance. Mercedes is also fairly close by.

Hope you have a great trip.

Go visit Festool!  Here is a link showing the location and distance between Heidelberg (where you will be), and Nurtingen (where Festool is).  It appears it is only about 62 miles by air.

Here is a link from WOOD magazine by Bob Hunter, who wrote about his week in Germany while visiting both Festool and Fein.

It looks to be less than a two hour trip by bus or train, between the two cities.

Dude !    Grab me a couple things and just drop them from the airplane  as you fly over Ohio on your way home.....

Just drop off the CMS jigsaw and TS75 module......  OH yeah....and all the centrotec items and router bits NAINA !!!

LOL !

Eric

Transformers are cheap enough if there are 230v tools that tickle your fancy.

The Zobo Forstners and other similar stuff is considerably cheaper in the old country. Assuming you can get back the VAT, then you should be able to get a full suitcase of small stuff if you try... Some of the NAINA might make sense.

You can pick up the CMS modules and get the tools for them when you get home.  If you happen to go to K town, stop by Big Emmas get yourself a snichzel and a nice bier to while yer at it.

Forgive my ignorance, what is "K town"?

I was a teenager in the early sixties living in Germany when my father was in the Air Force, stationed at a fighter/tactical nuc base.  Big K was what it was called then.  We would make the long trip there every month or so as it had the biggest PX (military version of/and preceding Walmart) in Germany.  Massive joint Panser/US tank base, we often would see tankers firing as we traveled the highway into the base.  On one trip there we went on a  tour with a cousin stationed there to the German facilities.  We met an old German Sargent who showed us the German trucks and tanks.  Remember this was as Nam was warning up and basically the US military was still running equipment used in Korea.  All the German trucks had the huge wheels and tires common to all the modern military.  I remember asking him why the trucks were so high.  His reply was that the next time they went into Russia they were not going to get stuck in the mud!!!  [eek]  Makes you wonder about the current political situation in Europe.
