Heads up - HL 850 Bench Unit Discontinued (US)

Just saw one at Kenyon Noble hardware in Bozeman, MT.  Bet they'd ship it to you.

A real pain in the , both the SE-HL (850) and the SE-EHL (65) have been discontinued

I managed to snag the SE-EHL from a dealer in the Netherlands.

Its one of those little parts thats REALLY handy!

Thanks Dane!

Kenyon Noble had it and they're shipping it to me!

I appreciate the help!  : )

Ok so i just brought the 850 and found that the bench unit (SE-HL) was discontinued which is a little disappointing as so handy. Despite having a chat and scoring the Festool reps demo cheap I did find another avenue I thought i would share to any interested. You can buy all the parts individually and build one and costs were nearly the same price.

I'm sorry i don't though your shop can easily work them out its only a handful of parts.

According tohttp://ekat.festool.com, you can find the schematic under Planing > SE-HL. Here's the parts list, quantities and prices in USD. You can order spare parts directly from Festool USA. Being a discontinued item, they may or may not have all of these.

Thats awesome Shane, thanks for the time. Here in Australia I know they could source all the parts and was slightly higher price than the complete unit. So if all else fails this is a solution

Shane - shouldn't they have parts for ten years form the discont. date ???

For tools. I don't think accessories fall under the same policy.

But admittedly, they should update the FUSA website for clarity.
https://www.festoolusa.com/service/

10-Year Parts Availability
Festool guarantees availability of spare parts for 10 years after the product is discontinued. If we no longer stock a spare part for the period specified, you will receive a new machine free of charge as a replacement.

This may be an opportunity for a dealer here.  Dealers could purchase several sets of parts, sort them and packages them as "Build your own functional Festool accessory" bundles.  Assembly instructions may need to be created.  If the dealers can negotiate a better Ekat price than the end user, the dealer gets some form of profit incentive.  Add in a bit of extra for instructions and packaging.  The dealer makes money, the customer gets a convenient purchasing experience, a useful accessory, and an adult tinker-toy building experience.

It may not be a good idea economically, but if given no other choice it may be the only option.
True enough, I'd say keep checking on the usual places for used gear.

some possible other routes

DIY version with a long in feed and out feed table.

Using a router for edge jointing with a long straight bit, I have a CMT 2 1/4 straight bit, which I can use on the OF 2200 in the CMS with the OF module.

Edge jointing with a tracksaw but does not work for short or smaller pieces though.

jointing with a hand plane on a bench..

Get a real jointer used..

Hi,

Mmtoolparts.com has one more  left.  Call them at +1 (877) 583-7278 and ask to speak to customer service.. I just ordered the other one they had.

Best Regards,
Matt

I think that a few dealers have them around if you look hard enough -- my local Woodcraft had one left and I was in a store in Boulder, CO in late October and they still had one left on the shelf.

This is some creative thinking, S. Thanks.

Unfortunately, it nets to about $300, though, am I right?

Would you say this is still the only way to reasonably mount the 850 inverted? Any other ideas up that sleeve of yours?

[member=22929]worldburger[/member], the only other options I can think of are to look on the classifieds or ask one of the forums members on the other side of the pond to help you out.

I stopped at Woodcraft today to pick up some Dominos. While I was there I asked them if they would search to see if the HL 850 bench unit (485 017) was lingering in a dormant state in one of their branches/warehouses. They searched all Woodcraft stores in the US. The answer...NADA.

In the Netherlands I can still find multiple websites that list it as "stocked" with prices between ~ €105-125 incl 21% VAT, excl shipping.

But I wouldn't put any money on that stock indicator being accurate..
