Hi.  I'm trying to learn sketch up, and also make use of some models that I've found or been sent.

The cut list is working fairly well  (I'm getting a list), but the cutting diagram is not working.

Part of this has to do with the fact that I use a mac, and there is an issue with web-based output with sketch up, but even when I export the drawings (SVGs)  I'm not getting the parts output on sheets.

So, I've done some reading, and apparently the parts need to be made into components.  I did that, and then added words like PLYWOOD to the description, thinking that would get the app to recognize the sheet goods.

I keep getting layouts that have boards, but not sheet goods.

Thinking that this had to do with the model I was given, I decided to make my own sketchup file, with only 3/4" sheet goods.    Still no luck.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Tom

I think the problem is due to the way the SVG is embedded in the preview window--it doesn't work for WebKit--which Sketchup is trying to use to render SVG. I think what I did was find out where the SVG was saved and I opened that directly in Chrome (or I may have resorted to Illustrator).

I can't check right now as I'm typing this on my iPad in my old house that is empty and about to go on the market. My personal MacBook Air is at the new place in a box *somewhere*. If this doesn't work for you, I'll dig up my mb and figure out the exact steps I did to get it to work and repost.

Hi John and welcome to the FOG!

Thanks for the response, I'll try it this weekend. Would appreciate if you kept an eye out on this thread should I have problems, I'm not much good with computers.... ;)

Good luck selling!

Cheers, Bob.

I think I know what your problem is... you need to assign a color named plywood to the parts that are made out of plywood. If you have different thickness plywood in your project, assign a different color to each and call it plywood 1/4, plywood 1/2 and so on. You may want to make custom color palettes. I have gone as far as making colors with horizontal and vertical grain (this can get complicated). Also, make sure that the plug in has the word plywood for a search term.

If you do this right, the svg files will have one page for each thickness plywood with the proposed cuts. However, keep in mind that cutist svg's are not optimized for grain matching, or for that matter, minimizing waste. There is an app for the iPad, but it does not do well rotating the cuts to have the grain go one way or the other.
