This was a fun build and not something you see everyday so thought I'd post it. This was for my very good customers that I've done tons of work for so luckily they had faith in me even though I've never done a hidden door before. I've never made so many mock ups to make sure everything would work but honestly it wasn't nearly as intimidating as I made it in my mind. I did a full sketch up drawing to find my pivot point and obviously had to do a mockup of that, believe it or not I could have just trusted my drawing. Of course my first hidden door was going to be an easy one fitting it into a room with round walls and replacing someone else's failed attempt at making one. I ended up just making a door frame 12" deep from cherry ply and attaching a face frame on that so I could just install that in the opening and then my door/cabinet just sat in the frame. The lumber is all cherry with a gel stain glaze and the pivot hinge was from cshardware. I'm not good at estimating weight but the door definitely took two of us to carry and even loaded up with wine it swings effortlessly. When the door is shut it has a tight seal and if the light is on behind the door you can't see any of it from the outside. Yes I somehow forgot to stain the back of the right pillar that you can see when the door is opened and yes I went back to finish that lol. If anyone has any questions about the construction of it I'd be more than happy to answer, I know I was intimidated about the concept of a hidden door but if you can make a cabinet you can make this door.
