HL850 Question

How deep a rabbet can you make with one pass?

The depth setting goes to 3.4mm. However, my guess the actual depth the planer can cut is determined in part by the depth setting and in part by the type of wood and the width of the rabbit.

I would not try to make a rabbit using the full width of the planer at the full depth into really hard wood.

The HL850 really shines at being an electric planer but it would not be my first choice for rabbits unless I was away from my shop.

I ran into the same problem.  I solved it by bringing home a CMS.
Perfect rabbets, and even dados every time now.

If I could get a super accurate micro-adjustable fence like I have on my big home built router table on a CMS, I'd buy one.

The dust collection and sliding table are powerful inducements. The so-so fence is a powerful deterrent.

Just maybe, the CMS upgrade will handle a 2200 router and a great fence. Just dreaming.

There is avideo, I believe it's a Festool video where the demonstrator planes a piece of wood at full depth.

Agreed, it is a fantastic electric planer. You can really dial in the cut.
