Well, I have a HL850E planer.  Had it since June, and used it a couple of times to make rabited jams.  It seems that I would have to put a lot of pressure on to the exposed blade side to achieve a square rabit.  Just recently I tried to lightly plane down a router table top I was putting together and it seems that it was taking of ~1/32 on the belt side.  Thought it was me again and tried the other direction.  Instead of a flat swath, I got a crown.  Took off the hose and tried again.  Same thing.  Ran it on a flat piece of MDF and sure enough, the same thing.  I took it into the shop I bought it from and they just reajusted the front frog.  Still does it and I think the blade is adjusted too far out.  The rabit seems to grow to the right also.  Could it be the spindle is a skew, slightly canted from the metal body?  Is there anything that I can do, because I really don't want to take it back there to the shop I bought it from.  (don't think the 'repair' guy knows what he's doing).

I wouldn't take it back to the repair guy I would have festool repair it.    I have made small little door frames with mine for under the stairs on site using the Festool Bench Unit HL 850 and it works fine so your should be fine also.  I did notice the start and the end of the rebate tends to be deeper so I always make sure the timber is longer than what I need now and just cut the ends off.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your planer.  You should have received an email from me.  I'm confident that our repair department can diagnose and resolve your issue.  Please contact them directly using the phone number below in my signature or, as I stated in my email, I would be happy to arrange for someone to call you if you provide me with your contact information and a convenient time to call.

Thanks for the help.  I'll definitely call the service dept and arrange to have it looked at by a real festool guy.  I also took in my Kapex for service cuz one of my guys decided to adjust the lasers.  OMG!  He unscrewed the housings till they couldn't adjust anymore.  Took it in and he says the lasers are adjusted.  Wrong.  Everything was out of alignment and the lasers are still out of adjustment.  I will make a point to adjust them soon.

You shouldn't let any one else but festool do any repairs or adjustments.  The dealer you bought your festools from don't seem very professional to me.
I think festool should contact the dealer and tell him its bad practice to fix things himself instead of getting it sent of to festool in my opinion even if its not under warranty any more. To me its giving festool a bad name.

If my local dealer did repairs himself on any brand let alone festool I would go mad.

I believe that the original poster lives on an island out in the middle of the Pacific and transit to Festool for a tool might take a while.  It could be the dealer was actually trying to be the most supportive that he could.

????? okay

It sounds to me like the blade may not be seated properly. It is also possible that you were given the wrong blade, one that is designed for sculptering a rustic look.

So, its offical.  Festool is friggin killer!  They just swapped the planer for a new one!  Anyways, there is a little of fine tuning to do to it, but it's much better now.  On the old planer, the blade was seated correctly and the blade was the correct one also.  Thanks, and now I'm sold on Festool.  Thanks again.
