Home made Sysports

I have melamine left over to build a guiderail rack to the side of the unit.

I have a question for anyone who cares to answer--why not just put a couple nails in the side and hang the guide rails?  They already have a hole in each end for this purpose.  When hung, they remain straight.  When placed vertically in a rack, maybe they do, but not necessarily so.  Comments appreciated--I'm assuming there's something I haven't considered.

John

John,

I've been hanging mine for over a year this way and so far so good. Except when the garage door is open and the wind blows in they clang like wind chimes ever so slightly.

Nails!?!  >:( Are you kidding?  ??? Have you tried putting a nail in the C12 chuck?  :-[ Only a finish nail will fit in the chuck and then the guide rail slips off the small head.  :-\ Maybe Festool will come out with a Centrotec nail holder bit and then we can try this ridiculous suggestion.  ;D

This is the most emoticons I've ever used.  :P

Seriously, a common nail or an old fashioned genuine wood screw would work as well or better than anything else.

What is in the very bottom drawer-- I thought maybe the extra weight was helping to hold the cabinet upright.

I just stuck my old Craftsman belt sander and bench grinder in the bottom drawer - for now - its really reserved for a Festool router some day in the future.

John,

My version actually does have the rails hanging on screws from each side. I'll update the photo's.

Fred, the closest I can find is these:
Item: 320.20G.10
Description: Slide,20" Self Close Creamy White, Green "Quiet" Wheel, 100 / Case

I used the 20" Stay closed creamy white  item#  321.20G.10

The 1.80 price was out of my Dad's catalog.  It may have been a year old so not had the current price.  I didn't check the invoice to see what the actual price was and since I bought a few additional odds and ends I may be off on the price without realizing it.

I have a spreadsheet based cut list if anyone's interested.

Fred

Sorry I haven't posted the cut list yet.  After looking at it last week I decided it needed to be cleaned up a bit if anyone else is to make any sense of it.  I'll get it posted as soon as I get it cleaned up.

Fred

I've finshed updating the sysport spreadsheet.  Since I can't attach an .xls file, I'll email the file to anyone that's interested.

Fred

I just added xls files to the list of allowed attachments.  Somehow, this extension slipped by!
Go ahead and attach the spreadsheet.
Thanks,
Matthew

Here's the updated spreadsheet for my sysport.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Fred

No, its just an Excel spreadsheet I put together as I was deciding how to build my sysport.

I'd like to thank all those that posted their designs before me.  It really made it easier for me to decide what I wanted to do.

i need some input on what to use and designe a home made sysports.but it needs to be light.i want to be able to take it on job site.(i have a trailler with a ramp)i'm thinking of using some large pneumatic wheels(like a hand truck)i 'm also thinking making it about 36" tall.so that i can use the top as a small table or a stand.so mdf, particle board, melamine are out of the question.any tips would be great.  thank

Just had an idea, how about mounting a port you make to a handtruck frame. Hand trucks come in various sizes, including wheel sizes (have seen some with large pneumatic tires for rough terrain). All you would need to do is tilt the handtruck / port back and push or pull (easy to get up steps, etc.) to move it like any hand truck. The metal plate at the bottom of the hand truck would provide protection for the port bottom and also provide stability when you "" park" it in place.

Everyone,
This is such a great topic!

I encourage members to continue posting photos of their home-made Sysports.  Provide plans if you can.

Another thing that would be great: if you build one of the plans posted here, please tell us about it.  Or maybe you have used one of the plans, but with variations?

Matthew

I'm definitely gonna make me one too. Probably use Steve Roxberg's example.
Only thing, being from the Netherlands: I have to recalculate all these funny American inches to centimeters  ;)

Hmmm....  "...inches..."???  What are these "inches" of which you speak?  Ain't got no inches on my TS55!  ;D
