Here are some pictures of the home made sysports I made. These pictures were on the Yahoo group, so I thought I would post them here.

I will never have enough, although there are now 5 of them and the 5th is half full, that picture was taken a few years ago.

Paul,

Could you supply some details about the casters - what make and model and where to purchase?  They appear to have a convenient locking mechanism.  The drawer trays appear to be adjustable vertically - 32 mm system?.  What slides did you choose?

Dave

The casters I actually got from ebay, I have a spare set somewhere, I will dig them out and get you the information. The trays are adjustable, I used the Festool 32mm system (LR32sys) it is a great product.
The slides are full extension slides that I go from Gliderite (www.gliderite.com) but Westlund has them also.

Thanks for posting, I was looking for this picture the other day and I couldn't remember where I had seen it!
I think it's a better solution for the workshop rather than joining and breaking a stack all the time

Here's my version which was based off Paul's.

DIY Sysport

Paul used the LR32 Sys to space his drawers and I intended to do the same thing but found I couldn't since I used 3/4" plywood for the whole project.  If you're going to use the LR32 SYS you should use 1/2" ply or thinner for the shelves which will allow the spacing of the shelf pin jig to work for Systainers.

OK, here's mine.  But nobody is allowed to make fun of how tall it is.  Actually it works quite well, since I move it around the shop very little, and it takes up less floor space.  If I did it over again, I would cut the height down a couple of Systainers, more like bill-e's.  I chose to make the drawers non-adjusting.  Used GileRite slides - great prices, great slides.  Casters came from Lee Valley - high quality.  Christian O. sent me a pair of green latches since this photo was taken - it's now all green!

Bill,
Maybe it's because I dont have the LR32 Sys (or maybe it's just duh!), but could you explain why the system only works with 1/2 as opposed to 3/4 shelves or trays?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

I don't remember the exact measurements but my recollection is that when I laid out the shelves made with the 3/4" ply the total stackup of the Systainer and shelf did not leave enough clearance without going to the next hole and thus wasting space....probably an inch per Systainer.  So I suppose it will work no matter what the thickness of the ply but if you have a lot of #1 or 2 Systainers you can waste 5 or 6 inches per Sysport which is something I didn't want to do.....I'm not as tall as Dave :)

Thanks Bill.  I understand the issue now.  (And I'm not as tall as Dave either).

Hey Guys,
The Sysports look great, has anyone considered adding a Gang lock (the kind that fit into a Dado in the side panel) It appears to me that if you where unable to slide the drawer out, you wouldnt be able to take the systainer out. Or atleast slow someone down, trying to make off with these beloved Festools.

Daviddubya,

Les Spencer, IIRC, built a Sysport similar to yours but he took the liners out of the different systainers so that he didn't have to open a systainer everytime he needed a tool.  IIRC, he also made the drawers longer than a normal systainer and keeps accessories in the extra space.  Is there a reason that you opted to shelve the systainers rather than storing the systainers out of the way as Les did?

Al - I opted to leave the tools in the Systainers for two reasons:

1.  I move the tools from my shop to a job site on occasion, so I wanted to be able to move them easily by stacking the Systainers.

2.  I never thought of removing the tools and putting them in the drawers!!!

And for those that think I'm tall - 5"9".

(part 1 of 2)

My home-made sysport cabinet is modeled upon Paul Franklin’s.

Here is a picture of my cabinet (beside the version made by Festool):

(part 2 of 2)

Like Festool’s version, mine has a rubberized top which is handy for gripping small parts, tools, and (as can be seen in the photo) coffee cups.  One thing worth noting is that, in order to balance the cart when drawers are sticking out, I placed an enclosed concrete slab on the lower portion of the back panel.  This can be seen in picture below.

Paul,

What are the small storage boxes on top of the second cabinet? They look like a Festool container but I don't believe I've ever seen small ones offered.

Looks like a coffee cup to me. :)

Greg, I think that you are looking the photo of my sysports whereas sroxberg is looking at the photo Paul's sysports.

Measured the systainers at 11.5 inches in depth. What length full extension glide do you order from glidrite worked for you?
