I've been searching FOG for this video and couldn't find it, so I'm guessing you guys haven't seen it yet.
It's not a CNC but a 3D router. Plans are also available on builder's website...
What do you think about it?

I think alot of shop made jigs are cool. Some very necessary for a job. This is also very cool, but I would rather have a cnc that could operate in manual mode. I just would have a hard time dedicating so much time to build something like this then fall short of being able to do all the engraving and other process saving things that come with a cnc.

He has just built a miniature version of an industrial overhead router. If he had also added a copying pin directly below his cutter it would make pattern/template routing really easy and a lot faster.

The 3D addition right at the end is an interesting variation and probably very usefull to a luthier

I admire his ingenuity .. and he saved a lot of money using ply instead of 8020 [big grin]

A bit more engineering would have made his copying setup more fluid, but I doubt that concerns him. He probably made that with the power tools he demonstrated and a little power saw, and that'd be impressive.

I hate to poo-poo his project as it is quite clever but I got tired just watching him make all the adjustments.  [tongue]

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] so you're probably not the go to guy for a fine violin [wink] [big grin]

I guess this 3D router fits his needs. Maybe a 3D CNC really is an overkill for his type of work.
