Horrible Site Lag

Alright - ran some updates, cleaned up a few things and we're back now.  We'll continue to monitor, but let us know if you see the slowness come back.

Thanks,

Matt

Still slow for me.

Edit: The time lag between mouse click and action is about 30 seconds.

[member=76259]MattFestool[/member]  Goto a post 16sec.>read the post 15 sec.>goto logon screen 15 sec.> enter info 2sec.>internal logon process 45 sec.>go back to original thread 16 sec.>click reply button 1 sec.>type reply varies>post reply 25 sec.

Altogether over two minutes to read the shortest message and post a minimal response. About ten times longer than normal.

[member=76259]MattFestool[/member] I'm curious if you got a database upgrade. Nothing with your codebase, but the actual backend database. A couple weeks ago, we had a similar thing with our tracker devices (though we aren't on AWS for this project, but applies). We had the database upgraded to a newer major version and suddenly, things would work well at first and consistently get slower and slower. It still worked, but was 🐶🍑 slow.

It turned out the connection pool handling had changed and our software wasn't handling the connections correctly for the new requirements. So if you can use the AWS dashboard to look at the database connections and see if they are growing over time after a service restart, it may be similar. The hack work-around was to set the idle time before close of the connection pretty low.

[member=76259]MattFestool[/member] now the lag is gone and it might be just a little bit faster than usual...it's noticeable to me.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  The back end seems to be looking good so far today.  I'm still here looking over performance and monitoring the site.

Check out the past couple of weeks.... either you all were messaging a WHOLE lot starting on the 19th, or something broke  [big grin]

I'll be around watching, but if something comes up again, feel free to message me or tag me in future posts!

The stats page that is publicly viewable (https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/stats/) shows a >100% uptick in 'Most Online' and a 50-100% uptick in Page Views starting around August 15 and peaking on the 18th and 19th.

The "Most Online" could be explained by a setting not flushing connections properly, but the overall page views increasing 100% from 10k/day to 20k/day is either from people constantly refreshing pages or from bots crawling the site looking for opportunities to inject their AI-generated from-the-grave thread bumps.

Back to normal today for sure - thank goodness, it was discouraging - would be good to have a better handle on what the causes where, for future reference :)
