How to extend the LR-32 guide rail

I will be having a house built soon, and plan to get the LR-32 system to build the kitchen cabinets. I will also be making a built in closet that is 7 or 8 feet tall, and I want to use the LR-32 system to allow flexibility in placing shelves and drawers. Thing is, I dont necessarily want to buy the short and long rail.

Is there a technique to register the short rail and move it up the side of the cabinet to make the rest of the holes. Adjusting to the same distance from the edge is easy enough, and I suppose that I could move the rail along the edge, using the router to register the holes. I see many opportunities to screw this up, so I would be grateful if someone who has figured this out can share.

you could use a second rail and join the 2 with the special joiner. a long rail would be the best but how often will you need it  with the holes. also it would be a neusence for short pieces in the kitchen.

The subject of extending LR32 "Holy" guide rails has been discussed here many times, so clearly a lot of FOG members have an interest.

By the time I bought my first LR32 rail, I already owned 3 of the 55" standard rails. None of those were sold drilled. Instead Festool sold the 42" 1080mm rail, which is long enough for bottom cabinets and most uppers. Festool does sell a 95" (FS 2424/2-LR32) cat 491 622) Holy rail for tall cabinets, such as pantries, and for book shelves. I bought one of those the day after taking delivery of a pick-up with a lumber rack, at the same time I bought a 2700mm and a 3000mm ordinary rails.

My own approach back then was to use ordinary rail couplers to attach a non-drilled rail when faced with drilling tall cabinets. I could clamp to the ordinary rail. Then to drill the other end I would move the non-drilled rail. To ensure of the 32mm spacing I would lock the plate holding my OF1010 router to a hole of the rail and plunge the router into an already drilled shelf pin hole. Then I would use the same Edge Stops (cat 485 758) to keep the hole the correct distance from the edge of the piece.

In late 2010 Festool introduced the LR32 connector (cat 496 938) which allows the hole spacing to stay correct when two Holy rails are connected. Those and the edge stops are part of the complete LR32 set.

Here's a video I made on how I join and set up 2 guide rails. Using the lr32 spacer is super easy to space the guide rails perfectly.
