I Really Did It This Time

After more than 15 years working with my Festools, I cut right into my guide rails.  I was in an awkward position and thought the saw was seated on the track.  Afterwards, I looked online for a replacement, but remembered that I was lucky enough to get one of the last  42" holy rails before they were discontinued, SO, I did this...I cut off the off cut and replaced the black strip.  Will it still work this way or are there situations where it will not?

Ouch! I have seen a nick or two, my 1080 has a small one itself, but nothing that big.
In theory, it shouldn't hurt anything, though you might get some dust building up on the exposed adhesive.

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm no influencer, so it really doesn't matter what it looks like.  I've got the two holy rail lengths that are currently offered, so this one is just a bonus.  I'm on notice now, so I'll be more careful in the future.  It taught me a good lesson.

Mine happened on a vertical cut, in a rather awkward position. It's just a little nick, but it bugs me every time I get it out.

I got my (much smaller) scar in far less time.  I filed off the sharp bits and it remains functional.  Better than functional—it is a constant reminder to double check everything before pulling the trigger.

I have routed into my 800 rail and I also have one where I cut into the top with the TS on 45 degrees not properly seated on the rail due to the anti-splinter thingy still being on.

Works fine I would say. Maybe slightly less pressure in that area and more splinters.

I have two gouges in my 2700 rail. I was cutting an opening in a wall on and the rail was screwed to the wall. But the saw wasn’t. Gravity make a big difference how the saw behaves.

You are NOT the Lone Ranger.  I cut into mine thinking I left it on the track but when I squeezed the trigger it mad an awful noise.  I filed off the high spots and am still using it.

I laid one of my tracks on the wooden standoffs of my STM 1800 to trim the splinter guard before I used it.  It was the second time I had cut anything on the STM.  This was the result.

It happens.  As others have said, it's a reminder to pay attention next time, and all of the times after that.
