That's a bit OTT, isn't it? Are you sure it isn't 8 speeds as in 4 speeds in each direction? Even then it's still a little OTT...

I believe it is a 2 speed motor with a 4 speed gearbox, so 8 speeds back and forth.

having a good amount of speed control is nice so you can dial your fpm rate down as your cutters get less sharp on high footage runs. i can dial mine in anywhere between the lowest and the highest. i can always find the sweet spot no matter what wood or how detailed the profile is
